Shishi Temple
Xiamen Shishi temple is a cultural relic protection unit at district level. It is located at the foot of Daimao mountain, Xiayang village, Xinyang street, Haicang District, and worships Sakyamuni inside. According to the records of Haicheng county annals, it was built in the third year of Tongguang in the later Tang Dynasty (925 AD). According to the existing ancient stone inscriptions, it is said that the mountain was opened in the second year of chuigong in the Tang Dynasty (686 AD). It is one of the thousand year old temples in Southern Fujian. During the song, yuan, Ming, Qing and Republic of China, there were five renovations. In Ming Dynasty, the largest scale was "three temples and sixty-four monk houses". There is only one hall left, built in the reign of Daoguang and rebuilt in the reign of Guangxu. The existing buildings cover a total area of about 5000 square meters. The inner courtyard of the temple wall is 21.8 meters wide, 11.5 meters wide and 12 meters deep. Shishi Buddhist temple faces north and south, and the "Youcheng ancient village" and "Jianshan ancient village" on the mountain behind the temple are the Anti Japanese relics of Qi Jiguang in Ming Dynasty. In 2001, Haicang investment zone approved 25000 square meters of land for the expansion of the temple.
Historical evolution
According to the Zhangzhou official records and the existing imperial edict steles in the temple, the temple was built in the second year of the Tang Dynasty (686 A.D.). There are textual research on the construction of Shishi temple in song, yuan, Ming, Qing and Republic of China.
In the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates invaded Fujian. General Qi Jiguang led his troops to Fujian to fight against Japanese pirates. Up to now, there are still traces of "Youcheng ancient village" and "Jianshan ancient village" left by general Qi in the back mountain of Shishi Buddhist temple, as well as the manger used when he stationed his troops in the village. All these historical relics show the great achievements of that year.
Shishi Buddhist temple experienced the rise and fall of history, and was passed down to its heyday in the Ming Dynasty. There are hundreds of monks in the temple, but later it is said that they can only live in 99 monks at most, and no more than 100 monks. One reason is that the geomantic omen of the place where the ancient Shishi Buddhist temple is located is excellent, and it is called "Golden Rooster embracing eggs" (oval light shape, compared with monks). On the other hand, there is a mountain in the shape of a snake, which is separated by a river. Therefore, it is safe A Taoist priest, feeling slighted, secretly encouraged the man-made bridge on the river. As a result, Fengshui was broken, and "golden rooster" was attacked by "snake", so it was difficult to protect 100 eggs. After that, the temple gradually declined.
At the beginning of reform and opening up, some people stole ancient stone lions from Shishi Buddhist temple, and the tire burst continuously on the way, which made the thieves scared. The stone lion was thrown to a nearby sugarcane field and recovered by the local people. It is said that the round stone in the mouth of the ancient stone lion, if someone wants to ask for a child, touch a few more times, it will be true.
During the cultural revolution, it was widely spread. It is said that there was a jade Avalokitesvara in the Shishi Buddhist temple. A teacher, when the temple was devastated, suddenly had a strange idea. He cut off the Buddha's head and carried the Buddha's body home. He wanted to make a jade tea table. He angered the Dharma protector and punished him. He died on the way to Songyu Wharf in Haicang before he got on the boat.
In 1989, after the implementation of the religious policy, under the hard work of the residents of Xiayang village, they swept away the filth and rebuilt the golden body, and the Zen temple began to reappear its fragrance. In the old days, there was an endless stream of pilgrims in the cowshed and the ancient temple. At that time, Jushi Yang Bingkun, the director of the district Party committee office, also compiled all the historical materials of Shishi Buddhist temple into a volume.
At the end of 1996, he was entrusted by the municipal Buddhist Association and invited by local residents. Master Zhongming and master Langming have come to live here for a long time. The two mages graduated from Minnan Buddhist College. They initiated the ambition of reviving Shishi Buddhist College. They focused on self-study inside, held various Dharma associations outside, and actively promoted exchanges with all walks of life. In early 2000, they founded the charity merit Association of Xiamen Shishi Buddhist College.
After the caijianweishan tunnel was opened in early 2001, a main road in front of the Zen temple led to Haicang Bridge, which made the transportation between Xiamen and Haicang more convenient.
Since ancient times, it has been said that there are 18 sceneries in the back mountain of the temple, such as Gaoshan Tianhu, Shijian stone, Xianjiao stone, shigu, Shiqi, Guanyin cliff, sankuiling ancient road and other natural landscapes and cultural heritages. For this reason, many folk stories and myths and legends are left, which make people feel the ancient love and the prosperous times.
At the beginning of 2000, it founded the charity merit Association of Xiamen Shishi Buddhist temple. With the tenet of "imitating the Buddha's mercy and promoting the spirit of pharmacists" and the concept of "gratitude, pure heart and cherishing the good fortune", the merit society has united a large number of young Buddhists and enthusiasts to participate in charity activities, and held various activities such as helping students, helping the poor, environmental protection, rescuing the sick, charity sale, cultural lectures, care for the elderly and children, which have a great impact on the island and are often reported on major TV and newspapers Guide.
Main attractions
The ancient temple with a history of thousands of years and the majestic hawksbill mountain have been said to have 18 sceneries since ancient times. Nowadays, many landscapes have only become historical terms, but there are still many scenic spots for future generations to enjoy, "Gaoshan Tianhu", "Shijian stone", "Gaoshan waterfall", "immortal footprints", "Guanyin cliff", "Shiqi shigu" and so on. Also left a lot of legends, so that future generations aftertaste.
1. Stone overlapping in the mountains: it is said that after the first emperor of Qin ruled the country, it was pingjiangshan. People drove the stone to the sea with a magic whip, and the people who drove the stone were slack. When it came to tortoiseshell, he thought that great success would be achieved. After taking a nap, the group of stones had settled down, so they left their traces today.
2. Guanyin Cliff: the front of the temple is surrounded by villages. There is a widow in the village. Because she can't bear to be falsely accused by the villagers, she made a vow in front of the Buddha in the temple. Then she climbed up the mountain and jumped down the back cliff to prove her innocence. After being rescued by Guanyin, the cliff is safe and sound, so it is called "Guanyin cliff".
3. Sword testing stone: Manjusri came to the Buddhist temple because of the rise of the temple as a pharmacist's Dharma Association. The God of Mt. tortoiseshell asked the Bodhisattva for Buddhist dharma. In response, the Bodhisattva used the sword to test the stone to explain the beauty of the Dharma, just like a sword, cutting off all the troubles in the world. I leave this trace for later generations.
4. Xianjiao stone: there is a huge stone behind the temple, called "Xianjiao stone". It is said that in ancient times, tortoise spirit made mischief and harassed the people. Villagers prayed for Guanyin Buddha in the temple to show his spirit and surrender, and the Bodhisattva showed his magic power. The tortoise spirit turned into stone, and the place where the Bodhisattva stood also left footprints. So it is called "xianjiaoshi".
