Ma Jun Memorial Hall

The Ma Jun memorial was completed in June 1995 and officially opened in August of the same year, with a total construction area of 1283 square meters. It is a three story antique building.

In front of the memorial is surrounded by pines, cypresses and flowers, eight white pillars, calcium plastic doors and windows with arc-shaped blue membrane glass, white marble walls, dazzling blue glazed tile roof and cornice with Hui characteristics, which make the memorial simple and dignified. Under the eaves on the second floor is a plaque inscribed by Comrade Deng Yingchao.

Now, Ma Jun memorial hall has become the patriotic education base and national defense education base of Heilongjiang Province. In 1999, the exhibition of martyr Ma Jun's life story was rated as one of the "Top Ten Excellent exhibitions in Heilongjiang Province". In 2001, the Ma Jun memorial hall was named the national patriotic education demonstration base by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee. In 2004, it was listed in 100 "red tourism classic scenic spots" of China.

Ma Jun memorial hall is located in the belt park of the ancient city Ning'an. It is very spectacular and complements the Mudanjiang River with green willows on both sides.

Ma Jun was born in 1895 in a Hui family in Ning'an City, Heilongjiang Province. He was an early revolutionary activist of the Communist Party of China, one of the outstanding young leaders of the May 4th movement, and a close comrade in arms of Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao. He has been actively involved in the revolution since his youth. During the May 4th movement, he led ten thousand student representatives in Beijing and Tianjin to make a havoc in Tiananmen, known as "Ma Tianan". He was the only national hero named Tiananmen and praised by people in modern Chinese history. After the May 4th movement, Ma Jun, Zhou Enlai and others initiated the establishment of China's earliest youth progressive organization, the awakening society. Ma Jun joined the Communist Party of China in 1921 and was one of the founders of the party organizations in Northeast China. He joined the Socialist Youth League in 1920 and was sent to Moscow Sun Yat sen University to study in October 1925. After the failure of the great revolution in 1927, Ma Jun was transferred back to China and was appointed secretary and organization Minister of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee to rebuild the Beijing Municipal Committee. Unfortunately, he was arrested in December of the same year and killed by warlord zhang zuolin on February 15, 1928. He died bravely when he was only 33 years old. Martyr Ma Jun's life is a life of fighting bravely, which has written a glorious page in the history of modern Chinese revolution.

Basic Display

There are two basic displays of the Ma Jun Memorial: one is the life and deeds of the martyr Ma Jun, and the other is the historical relics of Ning'an. The display of the life story of the martyr Ma Jun vividly shows the glorious revolutionary career of the martyr Ma Jun through the precious cultural relics such as the twisted beads used by Ma Jun when he carried out underground activities, the defense speech manuscripts in the enemy's court, the utensils used by Ma Jun before his death, the historical documents, photos and paintings recording his revolutionary story. The exhibition of historical relics in Ning'an takes the historical evolution as the main line. Through rich cultural relics exhibits, it vividly and intuitively shows the long history, rich cultural heritage, famous heroes, proud historical glory and remarkable construction achievements of Ning'an.

Since its opening more than ten years ago, the Ma Jun memorial hall has achieved remarkable social benefits and received 50000 visitors a year. It has become an important base for the education of patriotism and revolutionary tradition among government organs, enterprises and institutions, rural Party branches, garrison commanders, young people, especially primary and secondary school students. Every major festival, it has become a large-scale and organized educational activity center, receiving 520000 visitors in 2006. Today, the Ma Jun memorial has become a patriotism education base, national defense education base and national unity education base in Heilongjiang Province.

Ma Jun memorial is located in Ning'an City, which is rich in tourism resources. There are Jingpo Lake, the world's second largest high mountain barrier lake with beautiful mountains and beautiful scenery, Crater National Forest Park with natural beauty, and Longquan mansion site in Shangjing, Bohai State of Tang Dynasty. Ning'an has developed transportation and excellent geographical position. National Highway 201 and Mudan Tumen railway run through the whole territory, only 20 kilometers away from Mudanjiang civil aviation airport. There are 739 exhibits on display at Ma Jun Memorial. The most precious ones are the commemorative medallion of studying in Japan given to Ma Jun by the students' Association of studying in Japan during the May 4th movement, the bookcase and desk designed and used by Ma Jun, and the joint markers of underground revolutionary activities, such as tea bottles and rosary beads. From different aspects, these cultural relics introduce the brilliant achievements of revolutionary martyrs in their heroic dedication to the liberation of the Chinese nation and the awakening of the people.
