Yuan Jiagu (1872-1937), whose name is Shu Wu, is called Shu PU. In his later years, he was called a hermit of Pingshan. In 1891, Yuan Jiagu left Shiping for Kunming to study in Chen zipan and Zhang zhuxuan. At the age of 22, he studied in Jingzheng Academy. In June 1903, he was the only number one scholar in Yunnan Province. He ranked seventh in the second grade and one in the second grade in the special economic examination. In July 1904, Yuan Jiagu went to Japan to investigate academic affairs and government affairs, and wrote four volumes of diary of traveling to the East. When he returned to China in August 1905, he served as assistant editor of the National Museum of history, and was in charge of teaching, scientific research and books in the Department of translation and library. In September 1909, he was promoted to Zhejiang tixue envoy. In 1911, he left Zhejiang and returned to Yunnan. In May 1912, he was appointed as a provincial Senator by Cai E. in 1915, he was appointed as a consultant by Tang Jiyao, and he edited Yunnan series. Yuan Jiagu has been teaching at Yunda for more than ten years and is a cultural celebrity in Yunnan. Yuan Jiagu's former residence is located in Nanzheng street, Yilong Town, Shiping County. The former residence is a wooden structure building in Qing Dynasty, facing east from west. There is a passage through the gate of the former residence, with a patio in the middle and ears on the left and right. From the southwest channel into a building, for Yuan's childhood library. The former residence was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Yunnan Province in 1993.
Former residence of Yuan Jiagu
Yuan Jiagu's former residence is located at No. 5, Cuihu North Road, Wuhua District, facing the east from the West. It covers an area of 695.8 square meters and a building area of 875.9 square meters. It is a typical wooden quadrangle residential building in the Qing Dynasty. The furnishings and exhibitions in the former residence are an important window to understand the history of Shiping culture.

The gate of Yuan Jiagu's former residence is carved with beams and painted buildings, and a plaque with "economic special yuan" written in gold on a red background is hung on the top of the gate. At the top of the double gate is a horizontal plaque with black background and gold characters "taishidi". Entering the triple gate is a quadrangle building. In the middle of the courtyard, an orange tree with luxuriant branches is green all the year round, with golden fruits hanging all over the branches every autumn.
Display
In the middle of the wall of the upper hall is a giant photo of Yuan Jiagu when he was a scholar in Zhejiang Province. On the upper floor is a display of Yuan Jiagu's life story, works and calligraphic works. On the lower floor is a display of historical relics in stone screen. On both sides of the ear room is yuan Jiagu's study, which contains four treasures of his study.
Educational significance
Yuan Jiagu's former residence is small in area but rich in connotation. It can be described as an important epitome of Shiping's history and culture. It is a good place for Shiping people to understand the local culture and history, educate and encourage future generations to study hard, study hard and work hard. In 1993, yuan Jiagu's former residence was listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit in Yunnan.
