Relocation
With the popularity of the TV series Norman Bethune, people once again praise Bethune's great personality and feel extremely sorry for his early death. Looking back on Bethune's sorrow and glory after his death, people can feel a little comfort in their grief, and also comfort Bethune's spirit in heaven
.
After Bethune died in Taihang, the Communist Party of China and the general military and people held a solemn burial and relocation of his body four times with endless grief and high respect. At 5:12 on November 12, 1939, Bethune died in huangshikou village, Tang County, Hebei Province. At 10 a.m., the traffic team disguised Bethune's body as a seriously injured person, started off with a stretcher, walked for five days, and transferred it to yujiazhai. On November 16, Nie Rongzhen, commander of Shanxi Chahar Hebei border region, buried Bethune in the mouth of Langshan gully in the south of the village, with tears in his eyes. He was dressed in red silk, dressed in the new uniform of the Eighth Route Army, and made sushi with top-quality cypress. In order to prevent destruction by the enemy, the army and the people of the border region ploughed the graveyards flat, leaving no graves. Three days later, yakogo came to clean up and found no cemetery.
On November 23, the CPC Central Committee, Zhu De and Peng Dehuai sent a message of condolence to Bethune's family in Canada. On December 1, all walks of life in Yan'an held a memorial meeting for Bethune and sent a message of sympathy to his family once again.
In Wang Jiaxiang's and Chen Yun's speeches, Mao Zedong delivered an elegy: "learn from Comrade Bethune's international spirit, his spirit of sacrifice, sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for work.". On December 21, Mao Zedong wrote his later famous article "in memory of Bethune" with deep grief.
Eighteen days after Bethune's burial, the Shanxi Chahar Hebei border region carefully lifted Bethune's coffin and carried it to the ancient parade ground at the South Gate of the military city of Tang County, where it was buried on a high slope in the northwest corner. On January 5, 1940, a memorial and relocation meeting attended by 10000 people was held. Nie Rongzhen presided over and read out the memorial ceremony
"Hoo Hoo You don't give up your work. On the Long March, you go deep into the enemy's rear and sponsor our army. The clothes of cold clothes and local cloth, the food of starvation, the field of gunfire to save the dead under the forest of guns When he was in charge of the military city, he wept and didn't know what to say. "
More than five months later, the Shanxi Chahar Hebei Military Region decided to build a large-scale mausoleum in the center of the ancient parade field. It took four months to build the mausoleum in Taiyuan, where a kilo of white flour was exchanged for a kilo of cement. The coffin is placed in the basement. The ground is a five pointed star base. A model of the earth is erected in the center. Inscriptions by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Nie Rongzhen, LV Zhengcao and Shu Tong are engraved around. A brief biography of Bethune is inscribed on the tablet in front of the tomb, and a 2-meter-high white marble statue of Bethune stands on the rockery in front of the tomb. On both sides of the gate column are inscribed elegiac couplets: "the spirit will stay in the world for a long time, and the merits and virtues will be forever in China". On the left side of the stone tablet are engraved the eulogy of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and on the right side are engraved the sacrificial inscription. On June 21, 1940, Nie Rongzhen unveiled the statue, and more than 10000 soldiers and civilians attended the second burial ceremony. This cemetery is the highest standard building in Shanxi Chahar Hebei border area during the war. Later, the Japanese invaders bombed the tomb during the "May 1" raid in 1942.
On March 17, 1953, the Hebei provincial Party committee and government decided to move Bethune's coffin to the west side of the fountain of the martyrs cemetery of the North China Military Region in Shijiazhuang for the third time. In June 1970, the tomb was moved to the central position and expanded. The granite tomb was built with two steles made of white marble. On the north side, a brief biography of Bethune was engraved in Chinese and English. On the south side, a passage from Mao Zedong's "in memory of Bethune" was engraved. In July 1977, a three meter high statue of Bethune was rebuilt in front of the tomb. At the same time, the Chinese people also expressed their memory of Bethune in many ways.
As early as the first burial, Nie Rongzhen announced that the health school of Shanxi Chahar Hebei Military District founded by Bethune in niuyangou village of Tang county was renamed Bethune school, and later developed into Bethune Medical University, which was renamed the First Military Medical University after the founding of the people's Republic of China. In 1978, the name of Bethune Medical University was restored (in Changchun). At the same time, Bethune's model hospital in Songyankou village of Wutai County was renamed Bethune International Peace Hospital, and later developed into Bethune International Peace Hospital of the people's Liberation Army (in Shijiazhuang). At the same time, Bethune memorial hall was established in Tang County, Bethune hospital and other places, and many exhibitions of Bethune's deeds were held, naming and commending "Bethune doctors" and "Bethune nurses".
We should comfort the spirit of Bethune in heaven: Bethune, you have become the precious spiritual wealth of the Chinese people; the spirit of Bethune has nurtured the growth of noble heroes generation after generation.
