Taiyuan zoo is a very suitable place for children to visit. It is open, quiet and lush.

Taiyuan Zoo

Taiyuan zoo is an important part of the urban green space system to fulfill the functions of wild animal rescue, remote comprehensive protection, wild animal epidemic prevention and control, disease prevention and treatment, scientific research, wild animal science popularization and education for the society and the public, animal breeding and management, breeding and exhibition, public facilities in scenic spots, greening and maintenance, garden appearance, environmental health, safety and fire protection It is an important part of social public welfare. It is also an important carrier of greening Taiyuan, beautifying Taiyuan, building a first-class tourist attraction in Shanxi and building a first-class provincial capital city.

As of 2018, Taiyuan zoo covers an area of 79.36 hectares. The topography is high in the southeast and low in the northwest. The East-West straight line is about 5 li long, and the North-South average width is about 2 li. There are more than 170 kinds of animals, more than 3300 heads, more than 70 kinds of plants, more than 300000 plants. The lawn area is 600000 square meters, and the green coverage rate is more than 85%.

In 2018, in order to cooperate with the construction of the second phase (animal free area) expansion and quality improvement project, Taiyuan zoo will be closed. After completion, it will cover an area of more than 2000 mu, double the existing area, and add a new aquarium.

Historical evolution

In May 1955, the planning site was located in Heilongtan, which is located in the northwest corner of Taiyuan city.

In 1956, land acquisition, demolition and construction of Heilongtan Park began.

In the latter half of 1957, all the animals in the people's Park moved to Heilongtan Park and renamed it "Taiyuan zoo", which was officially opened on December 5 of the same year.

In 1976, 204 herbivorous animal houses were built in the west of Inner Lake of Taiyuan zoo.

In 1980, Shasha, the national treasure giant panda, was introduced from Changsha, Hunan Province.

In 1998, Shasha, a 33 year old giant panda, became the oldest panda in China at that time.

In 2003, in order to speed up the construction of Ecological Garden City, Taiyuan municipal Party committee and government decided to move the original zoo from the urban area, and started the construction of Taiyuan zoo new park on May 1, 2003.

On April 29, 2004, after nearly a year of construction and relocation, the new park of Taiyuan zoo was officially opened.

In 2018, in order to cooperate with the construction of the second phase (animal free area) expansion and quality improvement project, Taiyuan zoo will be closed. There are five highlights in this construction, of which the area of the aquarium to be built will reach more than 30000 square meters, filling the gap that there is no large-scale aquarium in our province.

The park is divided into seven scenic spots according to the natural and reasonable distribution of the terrain. Park layout

Taiyuan zoo is divided into seven exhibition areas: birdsong blue sky (Bird Area), tropical and subtropical animal area, Huaguo Mountain (primate area), natural mountain forest area, grassland customs (herbivore area), service and leisure area, science education area.

Birdsong blue sky (birdsong area) is dominated by waterfowl lake, Baihuayuan and Peacock Garden. In Huaguo Mountain (primate area), macaques are mainly raised. The natural mountain forest area is composed of xiongshan, Shiguan, Huyuan and Baoguan. Grassland customs (herbivore area) mainly raise wild donkeys, ostriches and other herbivores. Waterfowl Lake

The waterfowl lake covers an area of about 8000 square meters. The wading and swimming bird Museum covers an area of 150 square meters. There are more than 500 waterfowl of 50 species in the lake. White Swan, black swan, bean goose, grey goose, mandarin duck, swan goose and other waterfowl are mainly displayed in the lake. They all belong to the family Anatidae.

Bird Garden

Bainiaoyuan, the outer net is made of fireproof nylon net. Covering an area of 9000 square meters, the garden has more than 400 birds of 20 species, mainly Green Peacock, Red Crowned Crane, Dai Mian crane and seagull. Bainiayuan is closely connected with waterfowl lake, which creates a free space for wading birds and birds.

Pheasant house

In the pheasant hall, there are great bustard, Silver Pheasant, white crowned pheasant, red bellied pheasant, white bellied pheasant and so on. His breeding method is roughly the same as that of birds in bainiao garden.

Songbird Hall

Peacock Garden
