Dayawan nuclear power station is located in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It is the second nuclear power plant built in mainland China, and the first Chinese mainland to use foreign technology and capital to build nuclear power stations. Since then, Ling'ao nuclear power station has been built on the side of Daya Bay nuclear power station, which together form a large nuclear power base. Initially, the Daya Bay nuclear power station was built to supply power to Hong Kong. In the early 1980s, it was named Daya Bay nuclear power station because it was located in Ling'ao village on the Bank of Daya Bay. The power station was introduced to Hong Kong's power suppliers for equity participation, and most of the electricity generated was sold to Hong Kong. In order to eliminate the concerns of all parties, the nuclear island technology and equipment from France and conventional island technology and equipment from Britain were introduced for construction and management, and the quality assurance was provided by an American company. After all kinds of ups and downs, Daya Bay nuclear power station was finally started in 1987. Using pressurized water reactor technology, two 900000 kW generating units were installed, and all of them were connected to the grid in 1994. After the completion of the Daya Bay nuclear power station, the Chinese government decided to continue to build a new nuclear power station, named Ling'ao nuclear power station, 1000 meters west of the Daya Bay nuclear power station. Lingao nuclear power station is planned to install four 1 million generating units, which will be constructed in two phases. The first phase of the project started in 1997 and installed two pressurized water reactor generating units. Technically, the modification of Daya Bay nuclear power station was adopted and the localization rate of equipment was increased. The project was put into operation in 2002. The second phase of the project is also two pressurized water reactor generating units, which will be built between the first phase of the project and Daya Bay nuclear power station. Guangdong Province, where Daya Bay Ling'ao nuclear power station is located, has a pumped storage power station, namely Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station, which can provide supporting facilities for the safe, stable and economic operation of nuclear power station. It is located in Conghua City, Guangdong Province, with eight 300000 kW generating units installed, with a total installed capacity of 2.4 million KW

Historical evolution
On December 4, 1978, Deng Xiaoping met with French Foreign Trade Minister Francois Francois and his party, and publicly announced that China had decided to purchase two nuclear power plant equipment from France when answering questions from French journalists.
Around 1980, the power supply in Hong Kong was once tight. In order to seize this opportunity, the Ministry of water resources and power of the people's Republic of China and the Guangdong provincial government planned to build a nuclear power station in Dapeng Town, Shenzhen, which is close to the power load centers of Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Because the site is near the Daya Bay, it is named Daya Bay nuclear power station. The power station is a joint venture between the mainland and Hong Kong China Power Company (25% of Hong Kong's shares), and most of the generated power is sold to Hong Kong. However, during the preparatory period, the Chinese government and the British government discussed the final ownership of Hong Kong and other events, which delayed the construction of the nuclear power plant.
On December 13, 1982, the fourth executive meeting of the State Council discussed the construction of nuclear power station in Guangdong Province, and the meeting decided to build Daya Bay nuclear power station. Later, the nuclear island technology and equipment from France and conventional island technology and equipment from Britain were introduced for construction and management, and the quality assurance was provided by an American company.
On August 7, 1987, the project was officially started. Using pressurized water reactor technology, two 980000 kW generating units were installed, and all of them were connected to the grid in 1994.
Daya Bay nuclear power station is the first large-scale commercial nuclear power station in China to introduce advanced technology, equipment and capital. It has two PWR nuclear power units with a single unit capacity of 984000 kW, which are jointly constructed and operated by Guangdong Nuclear Power Group of China and China Power Corporation of Hong Kong. The construction of the nuclear power plant started in August 1987 and was completed and put into commercial operation in May 1994.
According to the joint venture contract, the joint venture period of Daya Bay nuclear power plant is 20 years, from 1994 to 2014. During the joint venture period, 70% of the electricity of Daya Bay nuclear power station will be transmitted to Hong Kong. As of August 31, 2012, Daya Bay nuclear power station has achieved a total of 2012 billion kwh of on grid power, 144.3 billion kwh of power transmitted to Hong Kong, accounting for one fourth of Hong Kong's total electricity consumption. According to the contract for extending the joint venture period signed this time, after the first joint venture period of Daya Bay nuclear power plant ends in 2014, both parties will extend the joint venture period for another 20 years to 2034.
On April 6, 2016, at the award ceremony of 2015 international safety performance challenge for similar units held in Paris, Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operation Management Co., Ltd., affiliated to China Guanghe group, won the first place in "capability factor" and "nuclear safety / automatic shutdown".
