The hinterland of Nantou Peninsula belongs to Nanshan District. It is an ancient city site with a long history. Nantou ancient city was first built in 331 of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Dongguan county government and Bao'an county government were both in Nantou, which shows the important position at that time. In the Tang Dynasty, the administrative center was moved to Dongguan, and Nantou became a military center. In 1394, the Ming Dynasty set up Dapeng Shouyu qianhusuo city in Dapeng and Dongguan Shouyu qianhusuo city in Nantou. This is today's Nantou ancient city. Later, due to the increasing population, Xin'an County was established in the Ming Dynasty. The meaning of "Xin'an" was "transforming the old into the new and turning the crisis into safety". At that time, the whole Hong Kong area was under the jurisdiction of Xin'an County. In order to prevent Zheng Chenggong from attacking and harassing, the Qing government ordered the southeast coastal areas to be forbidden to go to sea and move inland. This is the famous "no sea migration boundary" in the late Qing Dynasty. The people were forced to leave their homes and move 80 Li inward. Xin'an County was abolished, and only a few thousand people remained in the northern mountainous areas of the county. In 1669, under the repeated invitation of governor Wang of Guangdong, the Qing government restored Xin'an County in today's Nantou ancient city. At present, the ancient city was built in the 27th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1394; 1490 A.D.). According to the survey, the foundation of the city is built with yellow mud sand, which is irregular rectangle, surrounded by HaoGou. The longest distance from east to west is 680 meters, and the widest distance from north to south is 500 meters. At present, the north and south city walls still have the base site, and the south gate is well preserved. The south gate is 10 meters wide at the bottom and 4.5 meters high. The city tower has been destroyed. There is a rectangular stone on the arched city gate, on which the character "Ningnan" is engraved with small seal script. Nantou ancient city is a precious relic of Lingnan ancient culture, which has experienced and recorded the historical changes of Shenzhen.
Xin'an ancient city is located in the north of Nantou overpass, Nanshan District, Shenzhen City, covering an area of about 70000 square meters. It is also known as Nantou ancient city. It has a long history of more than 1730 years. According to historical records, Xin'an County was set up in the first year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1573). It is an important military town for coastal defense. Since the Jin Dynasty, Hong Kong, Macao, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Dongguan and other places have long been under the jurisdiction of Nantou ancient city. After the Opium incident in 1840, Hong Kong was cut off from Xin'an County. The people of Xin'an played an important role in the struggle against the British invasion. Now, the first phase of the renovation project of the old city of Xin'an has been completed. It is planned to repair more than 10 places, including the archway, nanchengmen, county government, Xin'an prison, coastal defense office, Dongguan guild hall, Guandi temple, wentianxiang temple, opium smoking hall, jieguanting hall, Juxiu building, yiliya pawnshop, taomigong bank, etc.
