On August 13 of the same year, Lin Duo, mayor of Harbin, visited the construction site of the bridge and determined the opening date of the bridge on August 20.
At 17:30 on August 20, the new Songhua River Highway Bridge in Harbin was opened to traffic.
On the evening of September 9, 2012, the East Bridge of Harbin Songhuajiang highway bridge (from the first expansion joint of the main bridge on the south bank to the bridgehead) was officially closed.
On May 31, 2018, Harbin Songhuajiang Highway Bridge bridgehead repair project was completed.

Design concept
The main surface design of Harbin Songhuajiang highway bridge focuses on the transition of the bridge to the river. A series of 2.2-meter-wide half moon shaped spiral stairs are arranged vertically, which are hidden in the semi-circular colorful glass curtain wall. Through the 70 meter long corridor composed of straight line and circular arc, a 3-meter-wide and 30 meter long staircase is connected, forming a group of modern magnificent bridgeheads Architecture. The staircase and corridor railings are white solid, and the lower part of the staircase is supported by lattice, just like a jade belt, floating to the green sea with the wind. The lines of the whole building are smooth and stretch. Through the appropriate proportion of area and the use of different texture materials, it is magnificent, beautiful, rough and slender, which is in harmony with the environment and reflects the architectural characteristics of the specific environment.
At the junction of main bridge and approach bridge are two modern round hall buildings with bridgehead style. In the round hall, there are not only offices for bridge managers, but also places for tourists to eat and take a rest. The perimeter of the circular hall and the bridge deck are long outline. The east side of the long outline guardrail is decorated with bright red ochre marble. There is a big word "Harbin Songhua River Highway Bridge" with hollowing and gilding. The west side long profile connects the pedestrian ladder under the bridge with the sidewalk on the bridge deck.
