Jingyi University (English: Providence University, PU; French: l'university é Providence), located at the foot of Dadu Mountain, Shalu District, Taichung City, Taiwan, covers an area of 30 hectares. It is a garden campus. Jingyi university is a private university established by Sister Marie gratia Luking, an American patron nun. Its history can be traced back to the Jingyi women's middle school founded by her in Kaifeng, Henan Province in 1932. In addition to providing students with rich and open fields of knowledge, learning environment and perfect administrative service system, we pay more attention to the cultivation of students' character and love. Jingyi University

Jingyi University (English Name: Providence University, PU; French name: l'university é Providence), referred to as "Jingyi", is a well-known Catholic University located in Shalu District, Taichung City, Taiwan Province, China. University History

Jingyi University was founded by Sister Marie gratia Luking (1885-1964), an American nun. The word "Jingyi" comes from her Chinese name "Lu Jingyi", and her colleagues often call her gaishamu.

Gaysham joined the patron nuns' Association in St. Mary's forest, Indiana, in 1906. In 1920, gaysham first came to China to preach and began her educational career. In 1921, gaysham founded Huamei school with two junior and primary schools. In 1932, gaysham founded Jingyi girls' middle school in Kaifeng, Henan Province.

In 1937, the Sino Japanese war broke out, and all schools in Kaifeng were forced to close because of the war. At that time, in addition to leading his nuns to take part in the emergency medical work at the railway station, gaishamu also turned the closed Jingyi campus into a temporary refugee camp to take in Chinese refugees affected by the war and provide medical treatment and care.

In 1948, he came to Taiwan and began to actively participate in the resumption of school. She first set up a Catholic English tutorial school in Taichung the following year, then built a school on Fuxing Road in Taichung in 1953, and finally formally filed a case with the Ministry of education in 1956 to establish the "Jingyi women's English College", laying a good foundation for today's Jingyi University.

In 1963, Jingyi women's English college was upgraded to "Jingyi women's College of Arts and Sciences" with four departments of Chinese literature, foreign language literature, business and mathematics, and a night department with two departments of foreign language and business. It became the only women's College in Taiwan at that time and the first College in Central China to set up a night department. Just as the school's affairs and reputation were flourishing, gayshamus was called to heaven in 1964 because of his long work.

In 1971, Guo fanmeng Xi took over the post of president, striving to promote the school's affairs. From 1966 to 1988, he worked in the Department of chemistry, Department of food nutrition, Department of information science, Department of Spanish language, Institute of Applied Chemistry, Institute of foreign languages, Department of youth and children welfare, Department of tourism, doctoral program of Applied Chemistry, international trade group, accounting group and business management group of business school In addition, the Institute of management science and the Institute of food nutrition were set up.

In the autumn of 1987, our school moved to the current site of Shalu District, Taichung City, Taiwan Province. The new campus is nearly 30A in size, with sufficient hardware and software construction. There are administrative building, library, student activity center, dormitory and various college buildings, as well as indoor warm water swimming pool, comprehensive ball hall, badminton court and other sports facilities. So far, the Faculty of each department is strong, all kinds of equipment are complete, and the scale of comprehensive university is ready. Therefore, on July 1, 1989, our university was upgraded to "Jingyi women's University".

On July 10, 1990, father Xu Xiguang succeeded the president. The English group and the western group of the foreign language department have their own departments. The next year, the Department of business was divided into the Department of business management, the Department of international trade and the Department of accounting. In 1992, the Department of information science and the Department of youth and child welfare were set up in the Department, and in September 1993, the Department of tourism was set up.

In 1993, it was renamed "Jingyi University" and opened to male students. In February 1994, Professor Li Jiatong was appointed to take over the administration of the University. In the evening of the same year, the Department of food nutrition was set up. In 1996, the master's program of the Department of youth and child welfare and the master's program of the Department of Chinese literature were established. In 1996, the Chinese language teaching center was set up to recruit foreign students to study Chinese. In October 1997, the comprehensive teaching building was completed and officially opened.

In July 1999, Dr. Chen Zhengui was selected as the seventh president. In the same year, he set up the Department of Japanese literature, the Department of finance, the master's program of Spanish Linguistics and the doctor's program of Shiying department. In 2000, he set up the Institute of ecology.

Since August 2002, Dr. Yu Mingde has been selected as the eighth president to take over the administration of the University. The Department of cosmetic science also began to recruit students in the same year. In 2003, Taiwan Literature Department, law department and Ecology Department were established. In 2004, the school of information technology was established, with the addition of the Department of information engineering and the Department of information communication engineering. The school of Arts was transformed into the school of foreign languages and the Academy of Humanities and social sciences. In 2005, a master's program in the Department of mass communication, finance and finance, a master's in-service program in the Department of youth and child welfare and a bachelor's program in the Department of cosmetic science were set up. In 2006, a master's degree program in Taiwan Literature Department, a master's degree program in international business department, a master's degree program in Chinese department and a bachelor's degree program in business management were set up.

In 2007, an Education Research Institute, a master's degree program in the Department of cosmetic science and a master's degree program in the Department of information engineering were set up. The master's degree program in the Department of information management was renamed the master's degree program in the Department of information technology. The bachelor's degree program in the Department of cosmetic science was suspended. In 2008, the Department of statistical informatics and the Department of information communication engineering were added to the master's program; the Department of food nutrition was changed to the food and biotechnology group and the nutrition and health care group. In the same year, the applied mathematics system planning and information unit stopped recruiting.

It is expected that in 2009, the master's program of tourism department will resume enrollment; the Department of youth and child welfare will be renamed as the Department of social work and child welfare; the biological resources and food technology group of food nutrition department will be renamed as the food and biotechnology group of food nutrition department; and the nutrition and Biochemistry Group of food marketing department will be renamed as the nutrition and health care group of food nutrition department.
