Overview of former residence
front gate
Now we see this simple and elegant green brick courtyard, which is Wu Chengen's former residence. The former residence covers an area of 9876 square meters, with a construction area of 1842 square meters. The layout of the former residence is divided into four courtyards, which are composed of 26 houses such as gatehouse, guest room, hall, study, courtyard and back garden? Wuyuan, supplemented by winding corridor, rockery, pavilion, Xuanfang bridge and bamboo, wood and flowers. It is a group of elegant, beautiful and antique garden style buildings reflecting the style of Ming Dynasty. Now we have reached the main entrance of Wu Chengen's former residence.
On the plaque above the main entrance, the golden characters of "Wu Chengen's former residence" were written by Shu Tong, the late famous calligrapher and chairman of China Calligraphy Association.
Entering the gate, the first thing we see is a green bamboo forest. Bamboo clumps, green leaves whirling, swaying posture, give us a modest Festival, elegant and quiet feeling. This reminds us of Su Shi's Poems: "it is better to eat without meat than to live without bamboo; without meat, people will be thin; without bamboo, people will be vulgar.". Wu Chengen has been in trouble for many times in his life, but he doesn't go with the flow. Isn't this clump of Xiuzhu a portrayal of his lofty character!
In the face of bamboo forest, we also think of an ancient couplet: "the door to a thousand bamboo poles, the home to ten thousand books.". Wu Chengen has read a lot of poems, learned a lot, and is versatile. Does his family really have ten thousand volumes of poems? Please follow me to have a look!
a living room
Here are the three main halls of Wu Chengen's former residence. This living room is the main hall of the Wu family. It is a place for holding wedding and funeral ceremonies and receiving close relatives.
Please look up at the green inscription "sheyangzhen" (y, study) on the brown background. It was inscribed by the late chairman of the Chinese Buddhist Association, Zhao Puchu. Why is it called sheyangzhen? Why put this plaque on the hall? Huai'an was called "Sheyang county" when it was first established in the Western Han Dynasty (117 BC). Most ancient celebrities liked to use their place of residence or birthplace as their names, so Wu Chengen was also called "Sheyang mountain people". His good friend is also the number one scholar of his family. Shen Kun once gave Wu Chengen a plaque with the words "Sheyang Zhen" on it. Wu Chengen was very fond of it, so he hung the plaque of "sheyangzhen" in the main hall, which has been lost.
The couplets on the porch pillars in front of the hall are as follows: "search for the inscriptions of Bai Dai que, pick up the lingering charm of thousands of years, the art garden has been pushing Beidou for a long time; Gu, in the guise of gods and demons, dares to express her feelings, and performs a journey to the West.". This couplet was written by Ma Jizong, the late vice chairman of the CPPCC Committee in Chuzhou district (now Huai'an District). It highly summarizes the origin of Wu Chengen's creation, his literary achievements and the historical value of his famous book journey to the West.
