Geyuan was built in the Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. It was the private garden of Huang Zhiyun, the general manager of salt industry in Huaihe River and Huaihe River at that time. Even the word "Ge" in the name of the garden takes half of the word "bamboo", which should be combined with all kinds of bamboos in the garden. The rockery in the garden is also known as "four seasons rockery". A week's visit to the garden is like experiencing the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, which is the most distinctive landscape in Yangzhou gardens.
The spring scenery is gorgeous and smiling. Near the entrance to the south of the osmanthus hall, stalagmites are arranged along the flower wall, echoing the bamboo grove. The summer scenery is green and dripping. In the northwest of the garden, the rockery is near the pool, and the valley is beautiful. The autumn scenery is bright and clean, like makeup. It's a Huangshi rockery with pavilions on the top of the mountain. It's the highest scenic spot in the garden. The winter scenery is bleak and sleepy. In the small courtyard in the southeast, Xuanshi leaning against the wall is as white as snow. The round hole on the south wall has the atmosphere of heavy wind and snow from time to time. On the west wall of the small courtyard, you can see the green bamboo and Camellia in the spring mountain.
Qiushan highlights: in the "four seasons rockery", there is also a complicated three-dimensional sightseeing channel in the mountain. It not only has a plane detour, but also has a three-dimensional winding. It is necessary to remember the formula of "big pass, small pass, bright pass, dark pass, straight pass".
Geyuan
Geyuan, located at No. 10, Yanfu East Road, northeast corner of Guangling District, Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, has won the titles of the third batch of "national key cultural relics protection units" and "the first batch of national key parks". This private garden of Yangzhou Salt Merchants' residence in Qing Dynasty is famous for its bamboo planting and rockery in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
In 1818, Huang Zhiyun, general manager of Lianghuai salt industry, built a residential garden on the basis of Shouzhi garden in Ming Dynasty.
Geyuan is famous for the art of folding stones. The rockery of spring, summer, autumn and winter, which is made of bamboo shoots, Lake stones, Yellowstone and Xuanshi, integrates the principles of gardening and landscape painting. It is praised as "an isolated example in China" by Chen Congzhou, the garden master.
In 2005, Geyuan was honored as a national AAAA tourist attraction
It is one of the 20 key parks in China. In 2016, Geyuan became one of the first batch of national key flower culture bases.
The scenic area (Park) will be open to the public from March 21, 2020. Tourists need to scan the "Yangzhou citizens travel registration" QR code, or show their ID card for real name registration, and wear masks.
Historical evolution
In 1818, Huang Zhiyun, the general manager of Lianghuai salt industry, founded a garden on the site of Shouzhi garden in Ming Dynasty. Liu fenggao's "Geyuan Ji" records: "in the garden, the pool is quiet, the water and wood are clear, and ten thousand bamboo poles are planted, so it is called Geyuan."
During the reign of Tongzhi, Geyuan was sold to Li Wen'an, a salt merchant of Dantu in Zhenjiang. Later, the Li family was in debt, and the warlord Xu Baoshan forced the Li family to pay off the debt.
In Xianfeng Period of Qing Dynasty, Geyuan was burned by soldiers. Although it was not damaged much, it gradually went into depression. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was restored several times, and the grand scene was again seen.
In 1913, Xu Baoshan was killed by the revolutionary party. In 1926, the Li family gave up a garden. Later, the garden changed its owner. It once belonged to the Li family and Zhu family.
In 1988, Geyuan was awarded the third batch of "national key cultural relics protection units" by the State Council.
In 2005, Geyuan was honored as a national AAAA tourist attraction.
In 2013, "Geyuan historical materials Museum", one of the construction projects of Yangzhou Cultural Expo City, was officially completed and opened, which is located in the South residential area of Geyuan.
In 2013, the TV art film Yangzhou garden won the highest level "worldfest Remy Award" in this category of the 46th Houston International Film and Television Festival in the United States.
On September 24, 2015, the half year restoration model of Geyuan was completed, which completely reproduced the five road residence and the four seasons rockery of Geyuan, presented the corridor running through the five road residence and the four seasons rockery, and restored many abandoned elements of Geyuan.
In April 2016, Geyuan became one of the first batch of national key flower culture bases.
On July 15, 2016, among the 14 boutique tourism routes of Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal released by the 2016 China canal culture and tourism integration Summit Forum, Yangzhou was regarded as one of the important stops in four routes, and Yangzhou garden was also included.

Baoshanlou is a long building with seven couplets. It spans between the two mountains in summer and autumn. The two mountains are arranged from east to west according to the building. There are many paths leading to the building. Baoshanlou connects the two mountains in space. The corridor in front of the building surrounds the two mountains in front of the chest. This is the origin of the name of baoshanlou. On the corridor of baoshanlou, you can enjoy the two sceneries of summer and autumn, so it is called "time and space tunnel" by modern people. The south wall of the corridor downstairs is inlaid with the carved stone "a tale of bamboo and stone" written by Liu FengHao of the Qing Dynasty.

Series building
Opposite Geyuan, on the south side of Dongguan Street, is the former site of xiaolinglongshan Library of Ma rizuan and Ma rilu brothers, another big salt merchants in Yangzhou. The book collection of xiaolinglongshan library is known as "the north and south of Jiada River". Later, along with the decline of salt transportation in Yangzhou, the Ma family became increasingly depressed. After several changes of hands, xiaolinglong mountain hall was finally bought by Huang Zhiyun. As another courtyard, it was destroyed in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.
Live in Autumn Pavilion
Located on the south peak of Qiushan mountain, zhuqiu Pavilion, facing east and West, is the largest building on the rockery of the whole garden with three windows. There are stone steps in the east of the courtyard to reach the south peak of Qiushan mountain. In front of the pavilion, the couplet "autumn comes in from the sound of summer rain, and spring is found on the pistils of plum blossoms" is inscribed by Zheng Xie (Zheng Banqiao).

Characteristic rockery
Chunshan
Spring scenery is near the entrance to the south of Osmanthus hall. The bamboo on both sides outside the gate of geziyuan is higher than the wall, and there are stalagmites planted in the bamboo cluster, which means "bamboo shoots spring up after rain" in the form of "inch stone gives birth to emotion". Bamboo and stone break through the theme of "spring mountain" and convey the concept of "cherishing spring" in traditional culture. When you enter the garden gate, you will find the same spring mountain, or a picture of bamboo and stone. There are twelve Chinese zodiac animals dotted with pictographs, and peonies and peonies are planted in the flower beds. Outside is the scene of early spring, inside is the scene of deep spring.
Xiashan
Xiajingdieshi is mainly bluish gray Taihu stone, which looks like clouds and fog. The gardeners take advantage of the characteristics of Taihu stone, such as ruggedness, thin, transparent, leaky and wrinkled. There are many Dieshi but not disordered. From a distance, the Dieshi is smooth and smooth, like clouds and strange peaks; from a short sight, it is exquisite and clear, like peaks and caves.
The cave can be traversed, climbing up to the top of the mountain. A pavilion was built on the top of the mountain, next to the old pine. Dengdao on the mountain is connected with ChangLou in the East and Huangshi mountain.
Qiushan
Autumn scenery is Huangshi rockery, in the northeast corner of the garden, made of rough Huangshi. At the top of the mountain, the Square Pavilion is built, and the ancient cypresses in the gap stretch obliquely, leaning against the jagged rocks. There are three Dengdao on the mountain, one is still back to the original place after two turns, and the other is able to turn twice and return to the cliff. Only in the middle can we go deep among the peaks or down to the secluded chamber in the mountainside. There are stone chambers, stone benches, stone tables, cave on the top of the mountain, a line of sky, stone bridges and flying beams, deep valleys and ravines, planar detours and three-dimensional twists. The mountains are up and down, and connected with pavilions. The pavilion at the top of Qiushan mountain forms the highest scenic spot in the garden.
Dongshan
In winter, in the small courtyard in the southeast, white and round Xuanshi (snow stone) are stacked against the wall. Xuanshi rockery contains quartz, which is shining when facing the light and white when backlight. In addition, four rows of round holes were opened on the south wall to make use of the effect of the north wind whistling produced by the air flow changes in the narrow lane and high wall to create a snowstorm atmosphere in winter. At the time of the snow stone mountain building, a group of snow lions, large and small, were deliberately piled up, either jumping or lying, or sitting or standing.
Architectural features
The most distinctive feature of these gardens is the concept and architecture of "four seasons rockery". In the garden with an area of less than 50 mu, four rockery areas with vivid shapes have been opened up, which are called spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively. Yiyuxuan is the center of the whole garden, and visitors can enjoy it
