It is named Wanlu lake because it is green everywhere and green all the year round. As the largest man-made lake in South China, Xinfengjiang reservoir was formed in 1958 when a dam was built to store water at yaposhan gorge, the narrowest mountain pass of Xinfengjiang power plant.

Development history

In fact, Wanlu lake is formed by the construction of a dam to impound water in yapo mountain canyon in the lower reaches of Xinfeng River. Xinfengjiang reservoir is a water conservancy project integrating irrigation, power generation and flood control. With a total area of 370 square kilometers and a storage capacity of 14 billion cubic meters, it is the largest man-made lake in Guangdong Province. Wanlu Lake scenic spot is located in Dongyuan County, Guangdong Province, 6 kilometers away from Heyuan City. As the largest artificial lake in South China, Xinfengjiang reservoir, it was formed by building a dam to store water at the narrowest mountain pass of Xinfengjiang River, yaposhan gorge, when Xinfengjiang power plant was planned to be built in 1958.

The people of Xinfengjiang River Basin have paid a great price for the construction of this artificial lake. Xinfeng River is the largest tributary of Dongjiang River system. It originates from Dianbing, Yutian, Xinfeng County. It flows into Dongjiang River from west to south through Heyuan City. The whole river is 163 km long and has a rainfall collection area of 5813 square kilometers. When storing water, the submerged area is 390 square kilometers. 94311 people from 23091 households moved to Shaoguan, Huizhou and other villages and towns in the county. At the same time, 15524 people moved from the foot of the mountain to the hillside to live without land. There are still 6 towns left in the reservoir area, with a total of more than 70000 immigrants. When the reservoir was cleared, a total of 28333 hectares of forest and 12000 hectares of paddy fields were submerged. Nanhu Lake, known as the "land of fish and rice" at the source of the river, became a ten thousand hectare plain lake. Due to the lack of production and living conditions, there is still a big gap between the immigrants in the lake area and those in the non immigrant areas. In recent years, many immigrants have participated in and engaged in tourism activities in the lake area, which is one of the effective ways to get rid of poverty and become rich.

The birthplace of Baihua fairy is Tang Xiucai's family in Heyuan County, Haifeng County, Lingnan. The picture in the book coincides with the Wanlu Lake scenic spot. According to this allusion and the story in the book, the scenic spot of "Jinghuayuan" has been successfully opened up, and many tourists go to the "daughter country" to explore.

In the novel, the hundred flower fairy was demoted to the world because of violating the heavenly rule, and was born in jinghualing. Jinghualing is the best place to view the scenery in Wanlv lake. There are verdant trees, winding paths, exotic flowers, fragrant smell. It is said that a long time ago, the South Lake (under the water of Wanlv Lake) was a place where poisonous snakes and wild animals haunted. Later, a group of Hakkas from the Central Plains fled the war. They built dragon houses and lived and worked in peace and contentment. But unfortunately, three consecutive years of drought broke the stream, cracked the fields, and no crops were harvested. The Hakkas in Weilongwu walk and die, leaving only a young couple. They are also facing the threat of starvation, because the wild vegetables on the mountain are hard to find, and the only wild vegetables in their pot are very precious. At this time, an old begging woman appeared at the door. She trembled and stretched out a broken bowl to them. The husband and wife looked at each other and gave the old woman the life and death-threatening potherb without hesitation. At this time, a miracle appeared! The old woman rose into the sky and became a Guanyin with colorful clouds and a clear bottle of willow branches. The couple's pot was full of white rice. It turned out that Guanyin Bodhisattva was specially testing the couple, and finally moved by their spirit of sacrifice, he decided to save the Hakka people in Nanhu. Then, Guanyin dipped the willow branches into the water in the static bottle and waved. It rained for three days and three nights in Nanhu. The stream flowed happily and merged into a river, and Nanhu became the land of fish and rice at the source of the river. People are grateful to Guanyin Bodhisattva and name this river Xinfengjiang, which means that Guanyin Bodhisattva has given them a new life of plenty of food and clothing. Local people also built a Guanyin temple on Guanyin Mountain, with a sitting statue of Guanyin in it, which is called "water delivering Guanyin". After the completion of the reservoir, Guanyin temple was flooded. A few years ago, a compatriot of Wanlv Lake who went out to Shenzhen to do some business donated money to rebuild an 18 meter high statue of Guanyin on Guanyin Mountain.

Hakka style Museum
