China Coal Museum is the only professional museum of coal industry in China and a symbol of advocating science and civilization.
Because of its special function and status, it was awarded "national first-class Museum" by the State Administration of cultural relics.
Here we can also see dozens of coal samples, such as long flame coal, lean coal, lignite, gas coal, etc.
The biggest feature of the museum is "coal amusement Palace". The "coal amusement Palace" is a simulated underground mine with a large number of physical prototypes or 1:1 scale replicas. The tour route is hundreds of meters long and is said to be the largest in Asia.
China Coal Museum
Located at the intersection of Yingze street and Jinci Road, Wanbailin District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, China Coal Museum was completed and opened on September 30, 1989. The Museum covers an area of about 11 hectares and a building area of about 90000 square meters. It is composed of exhibition hall, China Coal Science, education and culture exchange center, academic lecture hall, office building and modern science and Technology Institute.
China Coal Museum is a National Museum of coal industry. It is a collection center of historical relics, specimens, documents and materials of the national coal industry. It is also a science popularization and education institution, scientific research institution and propaganda and education institution of the coal industry.
In December 2017, it was selected into the list of the first batch of national primary and secondary school students' research and practice education bases and camps of the Ministry of education.
Development history
In 1982, Shanxi Institute of mining and technology asked the Ministry of coal industry for instructions on the preparation for the construction of China Coal Museum. In October, the fifth session of the Fifth National People's Congress proposed the construction of a National Coal Museum.
In April 1983, the Ministry of coal approved the mission statement of the Coal Museum, with a direct investment of 16.7 million yuan. On November 20, the Ministry of coal industry of the people's Republic of China held a review meeting on the design scheme of China Coal Museum in Beijing. On December 13, the Preparatory Office of China Coal Museum was officially established.
In June 1984, a delegation of China Coal Museum headed by Dong Dasheng, vice president of Shanxi Institute of mining and technology, went to France and the Federal Republic of Germany to study the experience of museum construction. In August, the Ministry of coal industry issued a notice to all enterprises and institutions in China by (1984) mjz No. 1031. In October, Bo Yibo wrote the title of China Coal Museum.
In May 1985, the China Coal Museum broke ground in Taiyuan.
On April 14, 1988, the Ministry of coal changed the subordinate relationship of the Coal Museum by (1988) Miban Zi No. 338 document, and was led by Shanxi Coal Management Bureau and responsible for raising construction funds.
On September 30, 1989, China Coal Museum was completed and opened.
In March 1990, the supporting project of China Coal Museum, China Coal Science, education and culture center, was officially approved and started construction in the same year. In April, Shanxi general coal mine management company was set up in China Coal Museum, implementing a system of one man and two brands.
On October 9, 1991, the board of directors of China Coal Museum and the national coal cultural relics collection committee were formally established.
In June 1993, China Coal Museum coal Art Museum, coal generation Museum large landscape and 3200 square meters of underground simulation mine layout completed.
In November 1994, the bronze statues of seven British models of the national coal front organized by the Ministry of coal industry settled in the China Coal Museum.
In 1997, the 8 million yuan exhibition fee allocated by Shanxi provincial government was officially put in place.
In August 1998, according to the opinions of the institutional reform of the State Council, China Coal Museum was transferred to Shanxi Province by the State Bureau of coal industry.
On September 16, 2000, the first basic exhibition of China Coal Museum was opened to the public.
On May 27, 2002, the second phase exhibition project of China Coal Museum officially started.
On March 28, 2003, the second phase exhibition and simulation mine reconstruction project of China Coal Museum was completed, and officially opened to the public on August 10.
In October 2004, Shanxi ancient mural museum was officially completed and exhibited in China Coal Museum.
In May 2005, China Coal Science, education and culture exchange center was fully completed and officially put into use.
Exhibition hall distribution
The general idea of the basic exhibition of China Coal Museum is seven exhibition halls and one simulated mine. That is: coal generation, coal and human, coal development technology, contemporary China's coal industry, coal art, coal literature, Sino foreign exchanges, simulated mine. The simulated mine was built in June 1993 to receive the audience by appointment. In addition, the ancient mural Museum and coal mine safety education museum were newly developed.
Founded in 1992, the exhibition center of China Coal Museum covers an area of 10000 square meters, with 5000 square meters of exhibition hall, 3000 square meters of square outside the hall, 150 people's academic lecture hall and more than 500 people's multi-function projection hall. It can set up 300 international standard floors (2m x 3m) or 200 (3m x 3m) with complete supporting facilities.

In August 1990, China Coal Museum, as the main organizer of the coal sea light exhibition, was on display in Beihai Park, Beijing.
On October 25, 1993, the eighth Symposium of the geological Committee of the Chinese Museum Society was held in the China Coal Museum, attended by 49 representatives from 40 geological museums in China.
In December 2004, the ancient murals of Shanxi ancient mural museum were successfully displayed in Beijing.
On November 28, 2006, Mao pengqian, chairman of Gansu Jingyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. and Wang Jun, general manager of Gansu Jingyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. donated Jinghong coal samples and many cultural relics to China Coal Museum from Northwest China.
From April 18 to 20, 2007, a series of exhibitions of Shanxi miners who moved China, sponsored by Shanxi coal mine trade union, were held in China Coal Museum. On August 18, the science popularization summer camp on the night of China Coal Museum was held in China Coal Museum.
On May 7, 2008, taixiwujin's donation ceremony was held in China Coal Museum.
In 2013, China Coal Museum held the "love hometown" student style competition, "school intelligence Cup" Chinese dream - love Shanxi "Wujin" tour series activities, covering "coal science knowledge competition", "small commentator competition", "China Coal Museum Volunteer Activities" and other links, enhanced the city's primary and secondary school students' understanding of the coal resources in their hometown, personally participated in and felt the charm of coal culture, and improved the city's teenagers' awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection.

China Coal Museum has been awarded the titles of national first-class Museum, national popular science education base, national AAAA scenic spot and national industrial tourism demonstration base by the State Administration of cultural relics, China Association for science and technology and National Tourism Administration. It has also been awarded the titles of Shanxi youth education base and Shanxi patriotism education base by Shanxi Province.
In 2013, China Coal Museum was named as the 2013 excellent national science popularization education base by China Association for science and technology in the annual work assessment of national science popularization education base at the end of the year.
On June 23, 2015, the coal sea exploration scenic spot of China Coal Museum was rated as the seventh batch of top ten civilization windows of citizen moral construction by provincial authorities.
In December 2017, it was selected into the list of the first batch of national primary and secondary school students' research and practice education bases and camps of the Ministry of education.

Tickets are 60 yuan. Another charge: tour guide fee. China Coal Museum is an industry-oriented Museum. Due to the particularity of display, tourists can not visit it by themselves. In order to ensure the quality and safety of each visitor, tourists can voluntarily combine with other tourists to invite a commentator. Charging standard: Chinese explanation: 50 yuan / time (1-10 people), 80 yuan / time (11-20 people); English explanation: 100 yuan / time, each batch (time) of tourists should not exceed 20 people, in order to reduce the cost of tourists, tourists can combine by themselves.
