Duan Qirui (1865-1936) was born in Zhiquan, Anhui Province. In his early years, he founded the new army of Beiyang with Yuan Shikai. After Yuan died in 1916, he became the Prime Minister of the Beiyang government and became a real power figure of the warlord of Anhui Province. He was defeated by the warlord of Zhiquan in 1920 and came to Tianjin to live in seclusion. In 1924, the warlord of Zhiquan failed and Duan went out of the mountain again to assume the "provisional power of the Republic of China". In 1926, he was driven out of power by Feng Yuxiang This time, he went back to Tianjin and became an allegory.
In 1920, the Zhi Wan war broke out, and Duan Qirui was defeated by Zhifu. However, after the second Zhifu Feng war, because of the failure of Zhifu, he was pushed to be the provisional "ruling" of the Republic of China by Fengfu, resulting in the "March 18th" massacre of patriotic students, and was soon ousted by Feng Yuxiang. He first lived at No. 20, 2nd Road, Italian Concession, Tianjin, and then moved to No. 38, gongdao street, today's Anshan Road, Japanese concession. After the September 18th Incident, Japanese spies wantonly netted political figures in Tianjin, preparing to use them to establish a traitor regime in China. Duan was also on the list of Japanese spies. To avoid contact with Japanese agents, Duan moved to Shanghai and died in 1936.
