Baizhuyuan temple is located in the northeast of Zaoyang City, 45 kilometers away from Zaoyang City. It is located in the corridor between Hubei and Henan provinces. At present, there are bamboo garden Zen forest scenic spot, niuxin Temple Resort and recreation area, forest bath area and other scenic spots, with a total area of 43900 mu. There are more than 30 scenic spots in the park, including baizhuyuan temple, butterfly stone, tower forest, Huaiyin savior tree, Yuhuangding, viewing platform, Guanyin cave, Wuzhishi, Shilin, Baoan village, two reservoirs and eight Grand canyons. Yuhuangding, the main peak, is the highest point of Zaoyang. Baizhuyuan temple is hidden in the high mountains and lush forests. There are two white fruit trees, one female and the other male, on the side of the temple gate. They are 8 feet high and 3 at breast height. They are more than one person, and they are luxuriant. This temple, also known as "bamboo garden Zen forest", was built in the Jianwu period of the Eastern Han Dynasty, with a history of more than 1900 years. Hubei baizhuyuansi National Forest Park is located in the northeast of Zaoyang City, 45 kilometers away from the urban area. The vegetation type is the north subtropical evergreen deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest belt, and the forest coverage rate is 97.9%.

In December 2015, it was approved as a national forest park by the former State Forestry Administration.

The hilly land in Northern Hubei is located in the oak, deciduous oak, masson pine and round Berlin area, and the deciduous oak, pine and fir forest cultivation area in the hilly land of Northern Hubei. There are 536 species of natural and artificial plants in 91 families, 237 genera and 928 species of herbs in the park. Among them, there are national rare and protected plants such as Ginkgo biloba, Liriodendron, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, and precious medicinal materials such as Gastrodia elata, Fritillaria, Ganoderma lucidum, Polygonum multiflorum, Platycodon grandiflorum, bupleurum, etc.

According to the statistics of the second class inventory of forest resources in Xiangyang City in 1999, the total area of baizhuyuansi National Forest Park in Hubei Province is 2920 hectares, including 2913 hectares of land and 7 hectares of water. Of the total land area, 2802 hectares are woodland, 60 hectares are agricultural land and 51 hectares are other land. In the forest area, there are 2356 hectares of coniferous forest, 335 hectares of broad-leaved forest, 53 hectares of mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest, 14 hectares of bamboo forest, 17 hectares of agroforestry intercropping forest, and the forest coverage rate is 99.52%. According to the forest types: Water Conservation 66 hectares, 1985 square meters, soil and water conservation forest 2338 hectares, 78072 square meters, general timber forest 196 hectares, 6173 square meters, fuel forest 167 hectares, 372 square meters, fruit forest 8 hectares.

The total standing stock of the park is 87505 square meters, including 28589 square meters of coniferous forest, 5727 square meters of broad-leaved forest and 1732 square meters of coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest.

Animal resources

As of 2015, there are more than 150 species of wild animals in baizhuyuansi National Forest Park, including 4 species of woodpecker and owl under national protection, and 29 species of wild boar, hedgehog and ring necked Pheasant under provincial protection. Woodpecker, Finch, magpie, hare, ring necked pheasant and so on were more frequently seen.

According to legend, the temple is named after the two white bamboos. It is the largest Buddhist holy land in Zaoyang, Tanghe and Tongbai areas. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Hubei Province. Baizhuyuan temple was built 674 years ago from yuan to Zhengyuan. In the Qing Dynasty, there were more than 200 houses, including the front hall, the Guanyin hall, the Jialan hall, the side room corridor, and the monk's studio, with more than 100 monks. Due to the wars in the past dynasties, the temples were built and destroyed repeatedly. Only the front hall and some rooms were left. The front hall is tall, 4.5 meters high and 12 meters wide.

The Pagoda Forest is located in the depth of the bamboo forest in the east of baizhuyuan temple, with more than ten stone pagodas scattered. Talin has hexagonal, octagonal, single eaves, multi eaves, high up to 5 meters, low 2 meters, high and low scattered. The stone pagoda is the burial place for the monk after his death, which is called "Fu Tu" in Sanskrit. After consulting, the original 88 stone pagodas record the historical footprints of the eminent monks of the past dynasties, which is the same as the brick Pagoda Forest of Shaolin Temple in Songshan.

Martyr's Mausoleum

Martyr's mausoleum is located in niuxinsi reservoir, covering an area of about 136.3 hectares. During the war of liberation, a PLA rear hospital was once located at the foot of the reservoir. It was discovered by the Kuomintang army, and all 32 officers and soldiers died. Later, it was buried on the mountain by the local government and the masses, so it was named martyr's mausoleum.

Baoan Village

Baoan village is located in the west of the forest park, north of 355 provincial road, with an altitude of 509.1 meters. At the top of Baoan village, the walls are made of stone, about 3 meters high, covering an area of about 2 square kilometers.
