GUSHAN cliff carvings
Located in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, cliff carvings are also one of the famous places of Gushan. According to records, there are 180 cliff inscriptions on Gushan Mountain, and it is estimated that there are no less than 300 stone inscriptions on the whole mountain. Among them, the famous one is the word "Shou" carved on the stone wall under the drinking water rock, with a diameter of 4 meters, which was written by Zhu Xi, a famous calligrapher in the Southern Song Dynasty. From the Northern Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty and even to the present age, Gushan stone carvings have lasted for nearly a thousand years. They are rich in content, and have all kinds of characters, such as seal script, official script, cursive script and regular script. They can be called the forest of Steles in Fuzhou, which has important reference value for the study of ancient Chinese calligraphy.

Since the Song Dynasty, there have been 549 pieces of stone carvings. Among them, 89 were carved in Song Dynasty, 11 in Yuan Dynasty and 31 in Ming Dynasty,
There are 168 sections in the Qing Dynasty, 96 sections in the Republic of China, 2 sections in the people's Republic of China and 152 sections in doubt. It is mainly distributed in Lingyuan cave, Shimen, 18 scenes of Damo, jueyingding, Baiyun cave, etc. Lingyuan cave is the most concentrated place of cliff inscriptions in the whole mountain. There are more than 100 inscriptions of Zhen, Xing, Cao, Li and Zhuan script since the Song Dynasty. It is known as the "forest of southeast steles".
Cai Xiang, a great calligrapher of the Northern Song Dynasty, is the earliest stone carving in the whole mountain. "Drinking water rock" was inscribed by Shi Yuanchang in the sixth year of Jiayou of Song Dynasty (1061); the second section of "guoshiyan" was inscribed by Cai Xiang of Song Dynasty and Chen Xiang of Qingli. The character "Shou" is engraved on the cliff of the deep stream under the cuao bridge in Lingyuan cave. It is a regular script with a height of 4.15 meters and a width of 3.05 meters. It is one of the largest ancient cliff carvings in Fujian Province.
On the southwest side of the bridge, there is a Buddha statue of "stubborn stone nodding", 2.45 meters high, holding sutras and sitting in a futon. On the stone gate rock on the east side of Guanyin Pavilion, there is a poem written by Guo Moruo about his visit to Gushan Yongquan temple in November 1962: "on the Double Ninth Festival, I visit Yongquan. The wind is blowing and the rain is wetting the mountains. There are many pines and cypresses in Fuling and rhododendrons on the cliff. The ruins of kaoting are here, but the traces of people are bleak. "
historical significance
In the city of Fuzhou, there are more than 100 cliff carvings from Song Dynasty to modern times, such as Aofeng peak, qigong temple, Penglai peak and jinshutai.
It is more than 1000 years ago that Lu Wencui's inscription on the stone in the first year of Chunhua in the Northern Song Dynasty on the summit of Ao mountain. It is the earliest cliff stone carving in Song Dynasty in Fuzhou. Yushan cliff stone carving not only preserves many excellent calligraphy arts, but also has historical value.
On June 25, 2001, as a cultural relic from the Song Dynasty to modern times, Gushan cliff carvings were approved by the State Council to be listed in the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
