Yangsi general temple

Yangsi general temple was built in 1905, with Lingnan characteristics. Yang Si was born in Changsha, Hunan Province in Song Dynasty. It is said that he became a God at the age of seven. After he killed the evil dragon, he was granted the title of general. He was able to control the water and drive out the plague. There were many worshippers in the Yangtze River Valley. At the end of Qing Dynasty, the plague in Guangzhou spread to Caigang area. Xu Jingliang of Honggang village led 13 villagers to Jiangxi Province on foot for more than ten days to ask Yang Siqu to drive back the plague, and the plague stopped immediately. Later, the villagers built temples to pray for auspicious stars and longevity. The temple also worships Lu Zu (Chunyang), Yunshan Xianjie and Jinshan xianniang.

Description of Yangsi general temple

If you have seen the statue of General Yang Si, you will be surprised to find that General Yang Si is a child of eight or nine years old! Yes, General Yang Si was a nine-year-old when he became an immortal.

It is said that General Yang Si's parents died when he was young and lived with his brother and sister-in-law. He ranked the fourth in his family, so everyone called him Yang Si.

Yang Si was fond of playing since he was a child. When his brother and sister-in-law asked him to help him with some housework, he always wanted to go out to play. For this reason, his brother and sister-in-law complained about him.

At the age of nine, when he was playing outside, he found the forehead of a dragon king. He couldn't put it down and played with it every day.

One day, the weather was fine. His sister-in-law picked out the millet for drying to prevent it from spoiling. In order to prevent it from being spoiled by the chickens at home, she asked Yang Si to watch it. However, Yang Si has no intention to stay beside him, thinking of playing outside.

So, when the sister-in-law just walked away, she cried out, "sister-in-law, it's going to rain, come and collect the corn quickly!" As he was holding the Dragon King's forehead in his hand, the sky changed as soon as he called out. It was cloudy, as if it was going to rain. So his sister-in-law rushed out of the house. But when she ran to shaiguping, the weather cleared up again.

When his sister-in-law saw that the weather had cleared up, she stopped harvesting the grain and continued drying it. When his sister-in-law left, Yang Si planned to do it again. So repeatedly several times, finally make sister-in-law angry. My sister-in-law scolded Yang Si for being lazy and deliberately making trouble here.

He picked up the rake for drying millet and hit Yang Si. Yang Si didn't have time to dodge, fell to the ground and died on the spot.

After Yang Si's death, the Jade Emperor saw that he died pitifully. At a young age, he was destined to pick up the forehead of the Dragon King and made him a little general. Because his name was Yang Si, everyone called him general Yang Si.

General Yang Si was not a native of Guangzhou. He was originally a God in a temple in Hunan. At that time, there was no God of his own in the temple. General Yang Si's visit to Shenshan temple is also a bit of a myth.

About two hundred years ago, most of the people in shidiyuan lived by selling light plants. Once, a man from shidiyuan went to a place to sell light plants.

Selling light herbs is a small business, and it doesn't make much money. When he arrived, it was evening, so he went to a temple for the night.

When he was sleeping in the middle of the night, an immortal asked him a dream: he said that he was not happy in this temple, that he could not enjoy any incense and that he had no status. He was willing to go to the Shenshan temple in shidiyuan.

Every morning, when he woke up, he immediately bowed to the statues of gods, large and small, which were placed on the God's throne, and said, "Dear gods, who gave me a dream last night? If you would like to go with me to the Shenshan temple in shidiyuan.

Please pour it into my basket so that I can take you away. After that, a statue of an immortal fell into the basket. He was General Yang Si.

He picked up the statue with a basket and went home quietly. When the villagers found that there was a lost statue, a large group of people immediately came after them. Just as they were about to catch up, the weather suddenly became overcast. In a moment, it began to rain heavily. They found that the pouring rain was just under their heads, while the sky in front of them was a sunny day. The villagers understood that this was the immortal's own meaning, so they gave up. In this way, General Yang Si successfully came to shidiyuan and became the "leader" of Shenshan temple.

After General Yang Si came to shidiyuan, he heard that for a period of time it really brought good weather to shidiyuan. At that time, if you want to ask for rain, as long as you go to the reservoir to take a bath with the statue of General Yang Si, your willingness can be realized immediately.
