The history of higher education in Ganzi Tibetan area began in 1940s. In 1948, the national Kangding teachers college was established and closed down in 1950; in 1960, according to the instructions of the provincial people's Committee, the "Ganzi College" was established to offer normal majors and preparatory courses; in 1961, due to national adjustment, the school was closed down; in 1985, the "Kangding National Teachers College" was established. In the same year, Hu Yaobang, then general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, inscribed the name of the school in Chinese In 1986, the tenth Panchen Lama, then vice chairman of the National People's Congress, inscribed the name of the school in Tibetan. In 1992, the school changed its name to "Kangding normal college for Nationalities".

The school is located in Kangding, Sichuan, the hometown of love songs. The campus covers an area of 412668.9 square meters (619 mu) and 206000 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 270 million yuan, including 31.65 million yuan of teaching instruments and equipment, 1512 teaching microcomputers, 292 speech laboratories and 7580 multimedia classrooms. There are 688000 paper books, 70425 electronic books, 272 electronic reading rooms and 12861 special books (letters) in Kangba Literature Library. There are 490 teaching staff, including 363 full-time teachers, 11 full-time professors, 1 researcher, 111 associate professors and above, 125 full-time teachers with master's degree or above, and 3 foreign teachers. With distinctive national, normal and local characteristics, the school has 14 education departments (departments) including Tibetan language, Chinese language, English, mathematics and computer, tourism vocational education, politics and law, economic management, environment and life science, education, sports, fine arts, music and dance, ideological and political department and preparatory Department, and 25 training bases outside the school. At present, there are 6246 full-time students. The school has integrated the concept of "focusing on the road and fine work, loving China and building Kangba" into education and teaching, and made great efforts to improve the quality of students. More than 20000 college graduates have been trained, of which more than 10000 have served in Tibetan areas, most of them have become business backbones, and more than 2000 have been promoted to grassroots leadership positions.

Over the years, the development of our school has been concerned and supported by the higher authorities. Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, paid a special visit to the school when he was working in Sichuan. State Councilor Chen Zhili and Minister of Education Zhou Ji also visited the school in person. The leaders of Sichuan provincial Party committee, provincial people's Congress, provincial government, provincial CPPCC, Provincial Department of education and "four leading groups" of Ganzi Prefecture repeatedly went deep into the school to inspect and guide the work. In order to meet the needs of high-level talents for "stabilizing Tibet and health" and building "well-off Ganzi, harmonious Ganzi and ecological Ganzi", in 2004, the State Party committee and the state government, based on repeated certification, made a major decision of relying on our university and preparing to build an undergraduate college according to the fact that there is only one ethnic university in Kangba area. In 2007, the Provincial Department of education upgraded our university into Sichuan University Provincial Colleges and universities set up the "Eleventh Five Year" plan, which is included in the construction project of "enriching the people and ensuring health" determined by the provincial Party committee and the provincial government.
