Xi'an University of technology is a University jointly built by the central government and Shaanxi Province and mainly managed by Shaanxi Province. The school was founded on May 1, 1949, formerly known as Shaanxi Institute of machinery, which was established by the merger of Beijing Institute of machinery and Shaanxi University of technology in 1972. It was renamed as Xi'an University of technology in January 1994. The school has Jinhua, Qujiang, Lianhu three campuses and university science and Technology Park, covering a total area of 1.35 million square meters, building area of 730000 square meters.

At present, the university has set up the College of materials science and engineering, College of mechanical and precision instrument engineering, College of printing and packaging engineering, College of automation and information engineering, College of computer science and engineering, College of water conservancy and hydropower, College of economics and management, College of art and design, College of science, College of Humanities and foreign languages, College of civil engineering and architecture, Graduate School, College of higher technology, and graduate school There are 15 colleges, including the College of continuing education, the College of national defense students' education, the Department of physical education and the Department of teaching and research of Ideological and political theory. The university is one of the first batch of universities in China to obtain the right to confer doctor's, master's and bachelor's degrees. At present, there are 10 first-class disciplines authorized by doctor's degree, 44 second-class disciplines authorized by doctor's degree, 22 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree and 97 second-class disciplines authorized by master's degree. There are 7 post doctoral research stations in water conservancy engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electronic science and technology, materials science and engineering, management science and engineering. It has established cooperative and exchange relations with 27 universities and scientific research institutions in 17 countries and regions, including Germany, Japan, the United States, Italy, Singapore, South Korea and Ukraine. Since 1999, it has cooperated with Media University of Stuttgart in Germany to train both Chinese and German undergraduates and postgraduates.
