Shunde Vocational and technical college is a national backbone higher vocational college, a model higher vocational college in Guangdong Province, and a first-class higher vocational college construction unit in Guangdong Province. It is located in Shunde, Foshan, the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta, covering an area of 117 hectares (1749 mu). Founded in March 1999, Shunde Vocational and technical college is a local higher vocational college approved by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, under the leadership and management of Guangdong Provincial People's government, jointly built by provinces and cities, and invested by Shunde government. In September 1980, Shunde established Shunde work station of Foshan branch of Guangdong Radio and Television University. In May 1984, Shunde Branch of Guangdong Radio and Television University was established. In 1990, Shunde Branch of Guangdong Radio and Television University was renamed Shunde radio and Television University. In 1993, Shunde pilot adult college. In December 1994, Shunde adult college and Shunde radio and Television University merged to establish Shunde Yongqiang adult college. In June 1998, Shunde Yongqiang adult college, Shunde liweiqiang medical school, Shunde adult technical secondary school and Shunde teacher training school were merged to establish Shunde Vocational and Technical College (Preparatory). In March 1999, the Ministry of education agreed to establish Shunde Vocational and technical college. In July 2002, Shunde municipal Party committee and government merged Shunde normal school established in 1924 and Shunde adult health secondary vocational school established in 1958 into Shunde Vocational and technical college. In 2002, the school moved to a new campus on Desheng East Road.

In December 2005, the school passed the national Ministry of education's talent training assessment with excellent results. In July 2008, the University was identified by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance as the national key cultivation higher vocational college project for construction, and passed the acceptance in 2010. In September 2009, the University was identified as the construction unit of the construction project of Guangdong Provincial Model Higher Vocational Colleges by the Department of education and finance of Guangdong Province. In December 2010, the University was identified by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance as the first batch of backbone construction units of Higher Vocational Colleges in the "National Model Higher Vocational College Construction Plan", and passed the acceptance with excellent results in November 2013. In 2016, the school was identified as the first-class construction unit of Higher Vocational Colleges in Guangdong Province by the Department of education of Guangdong Province.

At present, the university has 10 secondary colleges (School of mechanical and electrical engineering, School of electronic and information engineering, School of Applied Chemical Technology, School of medicine and health, School of design, School of economic management, School of hotel and tourism management, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of foreign languages and School of Marxism).
