The predecessor of Jinzhong University is Jinzhong normal college, which was founded in 1958. In May 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, Jinzhong normal college, Jinzhong Institute of education and Jinzhong staff University were merged to establish a provincial full-time multidisciplinary undergraduate college in Shanxi Province. The university is located in Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, the hinterland of Shanxi Province and the hometown of Shanxi businessmen. It is one of the nine universities in the new campus Park of Shanxi Province.

Jinzhong University covers an area of 824700 square meters, with a building area of 516600 square meters. The total value of teaching equipment is nearly 100 million yuan.
