The predecessor of Guangxi University of traditional Chinese medicine is Guangxi provincial Nanning Institute of medicine, which was established in 1934. It was founded in 1956, renamed Guangxi College of traditional Chinese medicine in 1958, upgraded to Guangxi College of traditional Chinese medicine in 1964, and merged into Nanning College of traditional Chinese medicine in 1970. In 2003, it won the "excellent" undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education. In March 2012, it was renamed Guangxi University of traditional Chinese medicine.
