Nanjing Xiaozhuang College is a full-time public undergraduate college jointly established by Jiangsu Province and Nanjing city. Its history can be traced back to the Xiaozhuang experimental rural normal school founded by the great people's educator Mr. Tao Xingzhi in March 1927. In 2000, the former Nanjing Teachers College, Nanjing Institute of education and Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School were merged and upgraded to hold undergraduate education; in 2014, Nanjing Children's higher normal school was merged. In the past 91 years, the school has provided more than 100000 basic education teachers and various kinds of specialized talents for the society, among which hundreds of primary and secondary school teachers, famous teachers and education administrators have emerged, known as the "cradle of primary and secondary school teachers".

The school now has "two districts and one garden", namely Fangshan and Mochou campuses, and a provincial cultural protection unit "Xingzhi garden" (Tao Xingzhi Memorial), with a campus area of nearly 1500 mu. There are more than 17500 full-time undergraduate students. At present, there are more than 1200 teaching staff, including more than 470 with senior titles and more than 280 with doctoral degrees. At present, there are more than 200 off campus part-time teachers, nearly 20 overseas teachers and a number of high-level subject leaders.

Currently, the university has 56 undergraduate majors, involving nine disciplines, such as economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art. At present, there are 1 national specialty, 2 national specialty comprehensive reform pilot specialties, 1 provincial brand specialty and 8 provincial key specialties, 3 provincial excellent engineer education and training plan pilot specialties and 2 provincial excellent teacher talent training pilot specialties. It has 4 provincial key construction disciplines and 9 municipal key construction disciplines, 1 provincial basic education resources network engineering technology research center, 1 provincial key university construction laboratory, 1 provincial higher education talent training innovation base, 5 provincial basic course experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 3 provincial experimental teaching and practice education centers; It has won one special prize, four first prizes and five second prizes for teaching achievements of higher education at or above the provincial level.
