Tianjin Vocational University is a public comprehensive full-time general vocational college approved by Tianjin municipal government and registered by the Ministry of education. Founded in 1978, it was formerly the second branch of Nankai University and the chemical branch of Tianjin University. At the end of 1982, it was renamed Tianjin Vocational University. In 2006, the Ministry of education and the Ministry of Finance identified it as one of the first batch of 28 "National Model Higher Vocational Colleges Construction Plan" construction units. In 2009, it was identified as the training base for skilled talents in Binhai New Area by the Ministry of education and Tianjin municipal government.

The school has two campuses in Hebei and Beichen, covering an area of 765759 square meters, with a total construction area of more than 300000 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is nearly 73.91 million yuan, and the total value of assets is 562.12 million yuan. There are 449 full-time teachers, including 32 with senior professional titles and 138 with deputy senior professional titles. The school library covers an area of nearly 6000 square meters, with a collection of 671000 books. There are 10 Chinese databases, 10 foreign language databases and 1.8875 million e-books. It is a member unit of Tianjin University e-library.

The school has 12 teaching units and more than 50 majors, including school of mechanical and electrical engineering and automation, School of biological and environmental engineering, School of economics and management, School of electronic information engineering, School of international exchange, School of art engineering, School of optometry engineering, School of continuing education, Department of social management, Department of printing engineering, Department of social science and Department of basic courses. In the construction of the national demonstration school, five majors, namely, optometry technology, packaging technology and design, applied chemical technology, logistics management and hotel management, have won the central financial support, and three majors, namely, mechanical manufacturing and automation, computer application technology and community management and service, have won the financial support of Tianjin. The school has basically formed a professional structure layout with engineering as the main part and coordinated development of economy, management, literature, art and other professional categories.

At present, the school has three training centers of mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and printing, 99 experimental training rooms and 158 off campus training bases. The school has set up the 28th Institute of Tianjin Vocational Skill Appraisal and the national computer high tech examination station, which can carry out preliminary, intermediate and advanced vocational training and skill appraisal for 39 professional types of work and 14 computer modules. Among them, the optometry technical type can be identified as senior optometry technician, and the "double certificate" education has more than 90% students' evidence collection rate.

The school faces 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government and enrolls students according to the national plan. Since its establishment, there have been more than 20000 graduates, and the employment rate of graduates has always been in the forefront of universities in Tianjin. We have established a good employment relationship with machinery, automobile, communication, metallurgy, medicine, chemical industry, petroleum, hotel service and other industries. We have also carried out order training with Tianjin steel pipe company, RISHANG duty-free Bank of capital airport, Samsung motor, Foxconn electronics and other units. The graduates are generally praised by the employers.

The entrance examination rate of Higher Vocational Education in our school has maintained a high level over the years, which is much higher than the average entrance examination rate of Tianjin. In 2009, our school has 17 skills competition award-winning graduates, free of test, recommended to Tianjin Normal University of engineering for further study.

The tuition fee for general majors of higher vocational education is 5000 yuan / year or 5500 yuan / year, and that for art majors is 8000 yuan / year; the accommodation standard for freshmen is 1000 yuan / year. If the government adjusts the tuition standard of the current year, the standard stipulated by the government shall prevail.
