Inner Mongolia Medical University is located in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Founded in 1956, the university is one of the earliest medical colleges established in ethnic minority areas in New China. At that time, it was subordinate to the Ministry of health of the people's Republic of China, and was under the management of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 1958. Formerly known as Inner Mongolia Medical University, it was renamed Inner Mongolia Medical University in March 2012 with the approval of the Ministry of education.
