Shenyang Institute of engineering is a multi-disciplinary university with engineering as the main subject and coordinated development of engineering, science, economics, culture, management, law and other disciplines. It is a provincial key Undergraduate University jointly built by Liaoning Provincial People's government and state power investment group. It is the only local undergraduate university with energy and power as the main subject in Liaoning Province. It is the "transformation from ordinary undergraduate university in Liaoning Province to application-oriented university" "Model university". The school has always maintained a high employment rate of more than 95%. The school running mode and talent training quality have been widely recognized by the society, and it has been rated as the "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education.

The school is located in Shenbei New District, Shenyang, Liaoning Province. It has a main campus, a science and Technology Park and an industrial park, covering an area of nearly 860000 square meters and a building area of nearly 460000 square meters. It has enrolled students from 29 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in China, and now has more than 11000 full-time graduate students, junior college students and international students. There are 10 secondary colleges, 5 teaching departments and 1 Engineering Training Center, 32 undergraduate majors and 7 junior majors. The construction area of the library is 21400 square meters, with more than one million books in its collection. The construction of the digital library has begun to take shape. The campus network takes 10 Gigabit as the backbone, with Gigabit to the floor, realizing the full coverage of wireless network in teaching area, library and student dormitory area. Sharing data platform, unified identity authentication platform and unified portal platform are online, realizing the interconnection of education management information.

The school has a team of teachers with reasonable structure and excellent quality. Among more than 640 full-time teachers, 43% are at deputy senior level or above, 86% have doctor's degree or master's degree, and 80% are professional teachers with "double qualification and double ability". There are 11 teaching and scientific and technological innovation teams in provincial colleges and universities; there are more than 40 famous teachers and experts in various provinces and cities. Among them, there are special subsidy experts from the State Council, national excellent teachers, provincial famous teaching teachers, provincial professional leaders, millions of talents in the new century and other excellent teachers at all levels.

The university has one national characteristic specialty construction point, one national comprehensive reform pilot specialty, one advantage characteristic specialty of Liaoning Province, four comprehensive reform pilot specialties of Liaoning Province, two engineering talent training mode reform pilot specialties of Liaoning Province, and three application-oriented transformation demonstration specialties of ordinary undergraduate universities in Liaoning Province. At present, the university has one national practice education base for college students, 15 provincial practice education bases for college students, 94 on campus experimental training places and 132 off campus practice bases. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is about 146 million yuan. Among them, 10 sets of large-scale experimental devices with more than one million yuan, such as microgrid technology, nuclear power plant control and operation simulation, 600 MW thermal power unit operation simulation, have advanced technology level in the industry.

The University firmly follows the development road of "integration of industry and education, school enterprise cooperation", and has signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement with central enterprises such as state power investment group, Liaoshen region and large state-owned enterprises in Liaoshen. The university took the lead in establishing the "school enterprise alliance of energy and power industry in Liaoning Province", signed more than 160 cooperation agreements with local governments, enterprises and institutions, and achieved "order type" talent training with many units such as AVIC Shenfei group.

The school takes the social demand as the guidance to carry out the applied technology research. There are 21 provincial and municipal key laboratories and research centers. In recent years, it has undertaken 14 national projects, 530 provincial and municipal science and technology projects, and 160 horizontal projects, such as National Natural Science Foundation of China and national 863 program. Nearly 30 scientific research awards at or above the provincial level have been obtained; more than 10 technology patents have been successfully transferred, creating economic benefits of over 100 million yuan in the fields of power grid transformation and new energy application.

The University actively develops international cooperation channels and has established friendly cooperation relations with more than 20 foreign universities, including Red River College of Canada, University of Murdoch of Australia, University of Caledonia of Glasgow, Polytechnic University of Catalonia of Spain. Jointly organized the undergraduate education project of "electrical engineering and automation" with Murdoch University in Australia. Honghe International College, jointly run by China and Canada, has become a model of international education cooperation in Liaoning Province after 30 years of cooperation. In March 2018, energy and power engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, and software engineering were introduced into the undergraduate academic mutual recognition courses (application-oriented) of the national study abroad fund management committee, which were approved by the Education Department of Liaoning Province and the national study abroad fund management committee respectively.
