Zhongnan University of finance, economics and law is an ordinary university directly under the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, with economics, law and management as the backbone, and nine disciplines including philosophy, literature, history, science, engineering and art. It is one of the key construction universities of the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" advantage discipline innovation platform project. The school has two campuses, Nanhu campus is located in the scenic Nanhu Lake, Shouyi campus is located in the historic Huanghe building.

It has a profound historical heritage and seeks fast development while maintaining stability. Its predecessor is Zhongyuan University, which was founded in 1948 by the Central Plains Bureau of the CPC Central Committee with Deng Xiaoping as the first secretary and Chen Yi as the director of the Preparatory Committee. In 1953, in the process of the adjustment of colleges and universities across the country, based on the school of Finance and economics and the school of political science and law of Zhongyuan University, the Department of Finance and economics and the Department of political science and law of many colleges and universities in six provinces in central and southern China were gathered to establish the Central South University of Finance and economics and the Central South University of political science and law. In 1958, Zhongnan University of Finance and economics, Zhongnan University of political science and law, Zhongnan Cadre School of political science and law, and Wuhan University Law Department merged into Hubei University. In 1971, Hubei University was renamed Hubei College of Finance and economics. In January 1978, Hubei Province approved the university to change its name to Hubei University of Finance and economics, and became one of the first batch of universities to resume the recruitment of undergraduates and postgraduates. In January 1979, with the approval of the State Council, Hubei University of Finance and economics was led by the Ministry of Finance and Hubei Province, with the Ministry of finance as the main body. In December 1984, based on the law department of Hubei University of Finance and economics, Zhongnan University of political science and law was restored and rebuilt under the leadership of the Ministry of justice. In September 1985, Hubei University of Finance and economics changed its name to Central South University of Finance and economics. In February 2000, the State Council approved the plan of the Ministry of education. Central South University of Finance and economics and Central South University of political science and law were merged to form a new Central South University of Finance and Economics on May 26, 2000. In September 2005, the university entered the ranks of key construction universities of the national "211 Project"; in June 2011, the university entered the ranks of key construction universities of the national "985 Project" advantage discipline innovation platform project. In October 2012, the Ministry of education, the Ministry of Finance and the people's Government of Hubei Province signed a formal agreement to jointly build Zhongnan University of economics and law.

The faculty is strong and the scientific research achievements are brilliant. The school consists of the school of Marxism, the school of philosophy, the school of economics, the school of Finance and taxation, the school of finance, the school of law, the school of criminal justice, the school of foreign languages, the school of Journalism and cultural communication, the school of business administration, the school of accounting (MPAcc Center), the school of Public Administration (MPA Center), the school of statistics and mathematics, the school of information and security engineering, the school of intellectual property, the school of MBA There are 19 colleges, including school of Continuing Education (School of network education), School of international education and Wenlan college. At present, there are 1 "Changjiang Scholar" and 21 "Chutian scholars". 49 teachers enjoy the State Council government subsidies, 23 teachers are awarded the title of "middle-aged and young experts with outstanding contributions in Hubei Province", and 12 teachers are granted special subsidies by the Hubei provincial government. Two of them were awarded the "young teachers Award" by the Ministry of education; seven were selected into the "young teachers funding program" of the Ministry of education; 32 were selected into the "new century talents support program" of the Ministry of education; five were selected into the "New Century Talents Project" National candidates; one was selected into the "cross century 111 Talents Project" of Hubei Province; 27 were selected into the "new century high level Talents Project" of Hubei Province.

Since the 10th Five Year Plan period, the school teachers have undertaken more than 800 national, provincial and ministerial key scientific research projects, including more than 200 national social science foundation projects, National Natural Science Foundation projects and key scientific research projects of national education department, and more than 600 scientific research projects of national Ministry of education, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of justice. Since 2000, more than 20000 scientific research achievements have been achieved, including more than 900 monographs, more than 1000 textbooks, more than 17000 papers, and more than 600 achievements published abroad.

The training system is complete and the teaching quality is excellent. At present, there are more than 20000 full-time undergraduates, more than 6000 master's students, more than 900 doctoral students, more than 9000 adult education students, and more than 400 international students coming to China every year. The university has 4 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 10 first-class key disciplines in Hubei Province, 1 key research base of Humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of education and 5 key research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences in Hubei Province. At present, the university has 51 undergraduate majors, 15 first-class master's degree authorization points, 89 second-class master's degree authorization points, 6 first-class doctor's degree authorization points, 51 second-class doctor's degree authorization points, 6 post doctoral mobile stations, and 15 professional master's degree authorization points. It also has the right to recruit foreign students at all levels and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school also has 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 67 teaching practice bases, 2 innovative talents experimental areas and 1 off campus practice education base. Up to now, our university has become a University of undergraduate innovation experiment plan for three consecutive years, with 8 national characteristic majors, 5 national teaching teams, 3 provincial teaching teams, 16 provincial brand majors, 15 national excellent courses, 6 national bilingual courses, 31 provincial excellent courses, 68 University Excellent Courses and 2 National Excellent textbooks.

In terms of foreign academic exchanges, the university has established extensive international cooperative research and international academic exchanges with universities and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions in America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The University cooperates with Dongxi University of South Korea to hold the undergraduate education projects of visual communication design (animation game direction) and cinematography (image content direction), which is the first cooperation project with Asian universities among similar professional projects of the Ministry of education.
