The predecessor of Lu Xun Academy of fine arts is Lu Xun Academy of fine arts, which was founded in Yan'an in 1938. It was initiated by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other leaders of the older generation. Comrade Mao Zedong wrote the name of the college and the motto of "being nervous, serious, hardworking and modest". In 1945, Lu Yi moved to the northeast. In 1958, it developed into Lu Xun Academy of fine arts. In 1998, Comrade Jiang Zemin wrote an inscription for the College: "carry forward the tradition of Lu art, cultivate artistic talents, and prosper the socialist cultural cause.". The long school running history has accumulated the profound cultural connotation and leading school running strength of the college. After 70 years of development, Lu Xun Academy of fine arts has grown into a well-known higher art institution with strong faculty, complete majors, the highest level of running a school and the overall strength of the same kind of colleges in China, distinctive characteristics of running a school, and important influence at home and abroad.

The college has two campuses in Shenyang and Dalian, with a total area of 464181 square meters. Shenyang campus is located in the political, economic and cultural center of Northeast China. It is located in Sanhao Street, a famous high-tech Industrial Street. It is known as the "garden in the city". It covers an area of 82181 square meters, teaching and administrative rooms of 70044 square meters, library building area of 4400 square meters, and now has a collection of 365000 books. It also has a collection of more than 3000 authentic paintings, rubbings and cultural relics. The building area of the art museum is 4340 square meters. Dalian campus is located in the romantic capital of China. It is built in Jinshitan, a beautiful national scenic tourist resort. It will become a "city in the garden"; it covers an area of 382000 square meters, with a planned building area of 200000 square meters, including 150000 square meters of teaching area. After completion, it will become a first-class art campus with complete facilities, complete functions and domestic first-class.

At present, the college has 11 departments: Chinese painting department, Print Department, oil painting department, sculpture department, photography department, visual communication art design department, environmental art design department, dyeing and weaving clothing art design department, industrial design department, art history and theory department, cultural communication and management department, and an art and Culture Research Center (Chinese figure painting studio). It has 21 majors and directions: Chinese painting, calligraphy, printing Painting, watercolor, oil painting, sculpture, photography, film and television photography, graphic design, decorative art design, multimedia art design, animation design, environmental art design, urban planning and design, dyeing and weaving art design, clothing art design, fiber art design, industrial design, ceramic art design, art history, cultural communication and management. Dalian campus also has 16 professional studios: graphic design, multimedia design, decorative art design, display design, advertising design, packaging design, book design, illustration design, commercial photography, ceramic art, two-dimensional design, three-dimensional design, UI interface design, animation product series development design, Web interactive design, virtual reality and game design. All majors of the college have the right to confer bachelor's degree, and the right to confer master's degree in fine arts, design arts and arts covers all majors. Fine arts and art design are key disciplines in Liaoning Province.

The college has a team of teachers with good quality, strong ability and reasonable professional structure and title structure. There are 395 teachers, including 44 professors, 112 associate professors, 183 lecturers and 56 assistants. In addition, a group of foreign experts and famous retired professors in domestic art circles play an important role in teaching. The college is not only a famous university, but also an important base for art creation, art design and academic research. In the past national art exhibitions, the total number of awards is in the forefront. There are many works of Lu Mei teachers and alumni in China Art Museum, China History Museum and China Military Museum. The college takes the lead in the creation of large-scale art and historical themes in China. Panorama is a symbol of the overall strength of the college's large-scale artistic creation. The design discipline has made an important contribution to the development of social economy and culture. The major projects throughout the country, such as the expansion project of Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, have won wide praise from the society. Among the major projects involved in the creative design and construction, 12 have been listed as the national patriotism education base by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Inheriting the tradition of Lu art and insisting on innovation are the foundation of the college. It is the fundamental task of the college to adhere to the socialist orientation of running a school, and to cultivate art professionals, design professionals and art theory research professionals with all-round development of morality, intelligence, sports and beauty, social responsibility, spirit of the times and creativity. In terms of teaching, the college adheres to the principle of concrete realism, strengthens the training of basic skills, and constructs a rigorous teaching system: the creative teaching focuses on reflecting the real life and the changes of the times, encourages the students to study and experiment the trend of contemporary art, and advocates the expression of artistic language with personality and modernity; in terms of discipline construction, it emphasizes the humanities, plastic arts and design arts Through the infiltration and complementation of skills, a talent training mode with its own characteristics has been formed.

The college has cultivated a large number of art talents who are widely welcomed by the society. Since 1958, more than 13000 professionals at different levels have been trained for the country. Many of them have become famous artists and outstanding professionals in the field of Chinese art, and created many works of art with artistic appeal and influence, which have attracted the attention of Chinese art circles with their distinctive creative characteristics. There are 4718 students at all levels, including 3475 undergraduates, 301 postgraduates and 54 masters of Arts. In addition, there are 42 foreign students, and the College of adult education has 720 students.

Meiyuan (Bimonthly), founded in 1980, is one of the core journals of Chinese art. It enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad, and has been rated as "double effect journal" by the State Administration of press and publication. The journal conducts an annual "Meiyuan Cup" award for the works and papers of fresh graduates of national fine arts colleges and universities, and an "Luyi Cup" award for the works of fine arts teachers of National Normal Colleges and universities every two years, which is reflected in the journal, making Meiyuan an information exchange platform for higher art education in China.
