Wuyi University is located in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, which is the "No.1 hometown of overseas Chinese in China". It is the only comprehensive university on the West Bank of the Pearl River Delta with engineering as the main subject. The University was founded in 1985, became a bachelor's degree awarding unit in 1990, began to receive foreign students in 1993, passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment in 1996, became a master's degree awarding unit in 1998, and obtained the excellent grade in the undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of education in 2008.

The school covers an area of more than 1000 mu, with a total construction area of about 600000 square meters. It has 17 teaching colleges (departments), 7 disciplines including engineering, science, economics, management, arts, law and art, and 70 undergraduate majors (directions), including 42 science and engineering majors (directions), accounting for 60% of the total number of majors (directions); It has 6 first-class master's degree authorization points and 5 independent second-class master's degree authorization points (27 second-class master's degree authorization points in total) and 10 professional master's authorization fields in two categories of master of engineering and master of education. The master's authorization covers all science and engineering majors of the University. It has 6 provincial key disciplines, 9 Guangdong engineering technology research centers and Humanities and social science bases, 29 provincial education departments, Jiangmen engineering technology centers and scientific research platforms. At present, there are 5 national characteristic majors and comprehensive reform pilot programs, 29 provincial key (famous brand) majors and provincial applied talents training demonstration majors, and 13 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers.

The university enrolls undergraduates from 21 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and graduates from home and abroad. At present, there are more than 24000 students, including more than 18000 full-time undergraduates and more than 300 graduate students.

At present, the school has more than 1000 in-service staff, including more than 800 full-time teachers. The proportion of full-time teachers with senior professional titles is nearly 45%, and the proportion of full-time teachers with master's and doctoral degrees is nearly 80%.
