The predecessor of Jiangxi Normal University of science and technology was Nanchang Branch of Jiangxi Normal University founded in 1977, which was renamed Nanchang normal college in 1984, upgraded to Nanchang Vocational and technical normal college in 1987, and renamed Jiangxi Normal University of science and technology in 2002. Nanchang College was merged into Jiangxi Normal University of science and technology in 2004, and renamed Jiangxi Normal University of science and technology in 2012; in 2014, it was under the provincial administration.
