Hainan Normal University is a University jointly built by the Ministry of education and the people's Government of Hainan Province with a long history, distinctive characteristics of teacher education and strong comprehensive strength. It is located in Haikou, a beautiful coastal tourist city and a national historical and cultural city. Hainan Normal University, formerly known as Qiongtai academy, was founded in 1705. In the autumn of 1949, it officially established "national Hainan Normal University". In 1952, it changed its name to Hainan Normal College in the adjustment of colleges and departments. In 1983, the University re enrolled undergraduates and merged with Hainan Medical College to form Hainan University. In 1986, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, the establishment of Hainan Normal University was restored. In 1999, it merged with Hainan Institute of education and established a new Hainan Normal University. In 2003, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a unit authorized to confer master's degree. In 2007, it was renamed Hainan Normal University with the approval of the Ministry of education. In 2009, Hainan provincial government listed the University as a provincial key university for construction. In 2013, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as the unit authorized to confer doctoral degrees. In 2015, it was listed as a University jointly built by the Ministry of education and the people's Government of Hainan Province.

For more than 60 years, adhering to the school motto of "advocating morality and learning, seeking truth and innovation", the school takes serving basic education and regional economic and social development as its own responsibility. It has a unique position in the fields of teacher education, Hainan and South China Sea Regional History and culture, Hainan ecological environment and endemic species protection, Hainan medicinal plant development and research, and has developed into a teacher education center of Hainan Province , an important training base for advanced applied talents, a scientific research base, and a foreign exchange base for Hainan's education and culture, which have made outstanding contributions to Hainan's basic education, economic and social development. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 140000 talents of all kinds for the society. At present, the university has 21 colleges, including 4 first-class doctoral programs, 11 first-class master programs, 3 professional master programs and 62 undergraduate programs. It has formed a talent training system with coordinated development of normal and non normal majors and complete educational levels. It is open to 31 provinces (cities, districts) in China. At present, there are 20000 full-time students such as doctors, masters and undergraduates, and 600 international students.

The school has three campuses, longkunnan, Guilin Yang and Lingshan, covering an area of about 3100 mu. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 374.37 million yuan. The library has 1.83 million paper books, 1.12 million e-books and 18 databases in various Chinese and foreign languages. Digital campus construction is in the forefront of Hainan Province, and wireless network covers the whole school.

The school pays special attention to the basic construction of teaching, actively promotes the comprehensive reform of education and teaching, and has achieved remarkable results.
