Dalian University for nationalities is located in Dalian City on the coast of the Yellow Sea, which is subordinate to the National Ethnic Affairs Committee. It is the only comprehensive ethnic university with engineering and applied disciplines as the main characteristics, which is located in the northeast and coastal open areas. The school was established in 1984 and jointly built by the State Commission for democracy and people's livelihood, Liaoning provincial government and Dalian municipal government in 2006.

The school has two campuses, namely the development zone and Jinshitan, including school of economics and management, School of mechanical and electrical information engineering, School of life sciences, School of foreign languages and cultures, School of computer science and engineering, School of design, School of civil and architectural engineering, School of Arts and law, School of science, School of international business, School of information and communication engineering, School of environment and resources, School of physics and materials engineering There are 19 teaching and research institutions, including the College of architecture, preparatory department, teaching and Research Department of Ideological and political theory, International Cultural Exchange College, northeast minority research institute, and sports teaching and research department, with 51 undergraduate majors, covering seven major disciplines of engineering, science, economics, management, arts, law, and art. The school has 1305 teaching staff, including 858 full-time teachers, 43.5% of whom have doctor's degree, 90.3% of whom have master's degree or above, 50% of whom have senior professional and technical positions, and 34.3% of whom are double qualified teachers. Among the teachers, there are 98 excellent talents such as the 100 Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 36 teachers who have won various provincial and ministerial honorary titles such as national excellent teachers.

With the goal of building a high-level modern university for Nationalities with distinctive characteristics, the University adheres to the school running tenet of serving ethnic minorities and minority areas, adheres to the implementation of the strategy of building the university with quality, prospering the university with science and technology, strengthening the university with talents and international development, takes scientific development and improving quality as the main line, and forms late development advantages in teaching and scientific research, discipline construction, teaching staff and talent training, The school running characteristics of "based on the coastal areas, serving the nation, application-oriented, educational innovation, quality based school, teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, unity, harmony and all-round development" have been condensed, and an innovative way to develop high-quality ethnic higher education in coastal open areas has been successfully explored. The university has always put improving the quality of undergraduate education in the central position. It has built 6 national characteristic specialty construction sites, 9 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 3 provincial and ministerial engineering technology research centers, 6 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, and 3 provincial and ministerial key humanities research bases. Since 2010, the university has received 218 million yuan of scientific research funds, with an average annual scientific research funds of 43.562 million yuan. It has undertaken 137 national scientific research projects, including 81 Natural Science Foundation projects, and 83 scientific research achievements have won the provincial government awards. The university has carried out discipline co construction and joint training of graduate students with national universities such as the Central University for nationalities, key universities such as Dalian University of technology and scientific research institutions such as Dalian Institute of chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now, 917 graduate students (including 85 doctoral students) have been jointly trained and 30 master's degrees have been awarded independently. At present, the university has authorized master's degree in computer technology and bioengineering. The school always adheres to the central position of teaching work, and constantly deepens the teaching reform and various teaching infrastructure. Through the opening of preparatory classes for ethnic minorities and classes for ethnic minorities with small population, the school has carried out hierarchical teaching, infiltrative bilingual teaching, integrated studio course, seminar course, network course, peak experience course and activity course, implemented the reform of comprehensive examination in the whole process and diversified and open practice teaching, and comprehensively improved the comprehensive quality of ethnic students Many excellent achievements have been made in the teaching of science and technology. In 2006, the University was rated as one of the first batch of College English teaching reform demonstration schools in China. In 2007, the University won the excellent award in the teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of education. In 2010, it was approved as a pilot school of national education system reform. The school has built one national bilingual teaching demonstration course, 17 excellent courses in Liaoning Province and five excellent teaching materials in Liaoning Province. The University's undergraduate innovative education, bilingual teaching, curriculum teaching internationalization and other characteristics have been widely recognized by the society. Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 30000 undergraduate graduates, and the employment rate has remained above 90% for 14 consecutive years.

In April 2010, the University was awarded by the Ministry of education as one of the first batch of 50 universities with typical employment experience for graduates in China. It is the only university among 15 national universities and Dalian universities that has won this award.
