East China University of political science and law

East China University of political science and law is the first group of higher institutions of political science and law founded in New China. In June 1952, with the approval of the East China military and political Commission, the departments of law, politics and sociology of nine universities, including St. John's University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Soochow University, Xiamen University, Hujiang University, Anhui University, Shanghai University and Sinian University, merged to establish the East China University of political science and law at the former site of St. John's University. In 1958, the school was incorporated into the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences; in 1963, it was re established and enrolled in the next year; in 1966, it stopped enrolling students and was withdrawn in 1972; in March 1979, it was resumed for the second time with the approval of the State Council. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University changed its name to East China University of political science and law. The university has two campuses, Changning and Songjiang, covering an area of more than 750000 square meters. There are more than 18000 students and more than 1200 teaching staff. The university has two national teaching teams (legal history and economic law), four national excellent courses (history of foreign legal system, history of Chinese legal system, economic law and introduction to judicial expertise), four national excellent resource sharing courses (economic law, introduction to judicial expertise, history of foreign legal system and history of Chinese legal system), and two characteristic specialty construction sites of the Ministry of education (Law and investigation), 4 municipal teaching teams of Shanghai universities, 34 Municipal Excellent Courses of Shanghai universities, 5 construction projects of Shanghai undergraduate education highland, 1 undergraduate teaching project of Ministry of education, the first batch of undergraduate specialty comprehensive reform pilot specialty (investigation) of local universities, and 2 municipal specialty comprehensive reform pilot projects of 12th Five Year Plan undergraduate teaching project. The comprehensive experimental teaching center of law is a national experimental teaching demonstration center, and the "Open Experimental Zone for innovation of international legal personnel training mode" is a construction project of the Innovative Experimental Zone for personnel training mode of the Ministry of education. In 2002 and 2008, the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of education was excellent. Since 1981, the university has established postgraduate education, and in 1995, it was approved to recruit postgraduates with master's degree in law. It is one of the first batch of pilot units in China. Graduate education has basically formed a "one body, two wings" pattern with law as the core, economics and management as the common development, academic degree and professional degree as the coordination.

The university is one of the first batch of excellent legal talents education and training bases of the Ministry of education, Shanghai excellent legal talents training base and excellent news communication talents education and training base. In 2016, it was selected as the pilot unit of "incentive plan for undergraduate teaching teachers of municipal universities" in Shanghai. It is the largest legal literature center in East China, and the database of Chinese and foreign legal science ranks first among law colleges and Universities in China.
