Nanchang Normal University is a Provincial Normal University, which was reformed from Jiangxi Institute of education in 2013. The school is one of the first eight undergraduate universities in Jiangxi Province, with the characteristics of integration of pre service and post service teacher education. Its predecessor was Jiangxi secondary teachers training school, which was founded in 1952. It was renamed Nanchang normal college in 1956 and Jiangxi Institute of education was founded in 1958. Shao Shiping, the first governor of Jiangxi Province, inscribed the name of the school himself.
