Lanzhou University of technology is located in Lanzhou City, the capital of Gansu Province, on the Bank of the Yellow River. Its predecessor is Gansu Provincial School of technology, which was founded in 1919. In 1958, on the basis of the establishment of Lanzhou Institute of technology, Gansu Jiaotong University was merged into Gansu University of Technology. On October 1 of the same year, it was officially named Gansu University of technology. In 1965, the University was assigned to the first Ministry of machinery industry. At the same time, the hydraulic machinery, chemical machinery, petroleum machinery and welding technology and equipment of Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute and Beijing Institute of machinery were all moved into the University. A group of teachers were transferred from Hunan University and Hefei University of technology to work in the University. In 1998, it was transformed into an institution of "jointly built by the central and local governments, with local management as the main task". In 2003, it was renamed Lanzhou University of technology. After more than 90 years of construction and development, the university has become a science and Engineering University with strong engineering strength, continuous improvement of science level and certain characteristics of liberal arts.

The two campuses of the University cover an area of 2430 mu, with a building area of 1.13 million square meters. The library has 1.95 million books and 11350gb digital resources. The total value of fixed assets is 1.3 billion yuan. The school has 20 colleges and 1 teaching and research department. The total number of teaching staff is 2239, including 1676 full-time teachers, 3 academicians shared with Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of engineering, and 795 professors, associate professors and other associate senior titles. There are 22636 ordinary college students, 4132 graduate students and more than 17300 adult college students.

The university is one of the first batch of authorized universities for bachelor's and master's degrees in China. The university has 9 disciplines, including 16 provincial key disciplines, 5 post doctoral research stations, 5 first-class discipline doctoral programs, 24 second-class discipline doctoral programs, 18 first-class discipline master programs, 91 second-class discipline master programs, and has the right to grant professional degrees of master of engineering, master of Business Administration (MBA) and master of accounting (MPAcc). It has 68 undergraduate programs, including 6 national characteristics There are two national teaching teams and two national experimental teaching demonstration centers.

The university has established the State Key Laboratory for advanced processing and reuse of nonferrous metals jointly built by the Ministry and the province. The high tech achievements promotion center of the university is one of the first batch of national technology transfer demonstration institutions. The University Science and technology park is a national university science and Technology Park and a university with "three certificates for military products". At present, the school has 2 innovation teams of "Yangtze River scholars and innovation team development plan", 5 national scientific research bases, 5 scientific research bases of the Ministry of education, and 30 provincial and ministerial scientific research institutions and industry centers.
