Shiyan vocational and Technical College (hereinafter referred to as Shiyan Vocational College) is a public full-time ordinary college, which focuses on all kinds of work and has many specialties, such as humanities, management, economy and so on. Its predecessor was Shiyan normal university class founded on the basis of Shiyan Normal University in 1976 and Shiyan Vocational University founded in 1983. It was merged into Shiyan University in 1986 and renamed Shiyan university with the approval of the former State Education Commission in 1998 Vocational and technical college is one of the first batch of Higher Vocational and technical colleges in Hubei Province and China. In 2008, it was identified as the construction unit of Hubei Province's model higher vocational colleges. It is located in the downtown area of Shiyan, the foot of Wudang Mountain and the Bank of Han River in the northwest of Hubei Province.

Shiyan is a famous automobile city. Shiyan is built and prospered by cars. It is the birthplace and main production base of Dongfeng Motor Company, a national super large enterprise. It is also one of the three major commercial vehicle bases in the world. It has the reputation of "Detroit" in the East.  

Shiyan is a famous city of culture, tourism and ecology. It is an important birthplace of Han nationality and Han culture, with beautiful mountains and rivers, natural and cultural landscapes, rich and dense tourism resources. Wudang Mountain, the world cultural heritage and Taoist holy land, is famous at home and abroad. Shennongjia, the mysterious ecological barrier in Central China, is fascinating. Shiyan is the core section and important support of eco-cultural tourism circle in Western Hubei.

Shiyan is the source of the south to North Water Diversion Project. Danjiangkou reservoir, the largest artificial freshwater lake in Asia, located in Shiyan, is the water source area of the Middle Route Project of South to North Water Diversion, known as "water capital of China and Tianchi of Asia", from which a river of clean water will be sent to the capital Beijing.

With beautiful environment and advanced facilities, the new campus covers an area of more than 800 mu, with a building area of 178000 square meters and a total asset value of 330 million yuan, including 30.9 million yuan of teaching equipment and more than 440000 books and materials.

At present, the college has more than 6000 students and 540 in-service staff, including 106 teachers with senior and Deputy professional titles, a group of young and middle-aged experts and subject leaders who enjoy provincial and municipal government subsidies and won provincial and municipal outstanding contribution awards, 103 part-time teachers from enterprises and industries, and four "Chutian skills Masters" in Hubei Province. The college also employs English and American teachers to teach English.

The college has a unique advantage in higher vocational education. Dongfeng Motor Company and many local automobile industry enterprises provide the college with rich education and teaching resources. The college now has 8 teaching departments and 37 majors, among which art design is the key major in Hubei Province and the national pilot major of educational reform, automobile application technology is the key major in Hubei Province, and environmental monitoring and governance, tourism, mold design and manufacturing, accounting and other majors are the provincial pilot Majors of educational reform. At present, there are 8 on campus training bases and 32 experimental training centers for automobile maintenance technology, environmental monitoring and management technology, modern manufacturing technology, tourism and hotel management, art design, electrical and electronic technology, computer application and software technology, and business application technology, among which the automobile maintenance technology training base, environmental monitoring and management technology training base, and art design technology training base Planning training base is a vocational education training base construction project supported by the central finance, and tourism management, computer application and software technology are training bases in Hubei Province.

In recent years, the employment rate of college graduates has been in the forefront of similar colleges in the province, with the one-time employment rate of more than 92% for three consecutive years.
