China University of mining and technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of education. It consists of two campuses in Beijing and Xuzhou. China University of mining and Technology (Beijing) is a research university based on the former Beijing Institute of mining and technology. In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, Beijing Graduate Department of China University of mining and technology was established to recruit and train graduate students; in July 1997, with the approval of the former State Education Commission and Beijing Municipality, China University of mining and Technology (Beijing) was established, and began to recruit undergraduate students in 1998. The school is located in Xueyuan Road, Haidian District, where colleges and universities gather in Beijing, overlooking the National Olympic Park in the East, the summer palace, Yuanmingyuan and Xiangshan in the West. The school covers an area of 240000 square meters, with a total construction area of 320000 square meters. The library has a collection of more than 450000 books and 189000 e-books.
China University of mining and technology is a national key university with mining characteristics, mainly engineering, combining science, engineering, culture and management. It is one of the key universities listed in the national "211 Project" and one of the first batch of universities with the right to grant doctors and masters in China. The predecessor of the school is Jiaozuo road and mining school, which was founded in 1909. In 1950, the school moved from Jiaozuo to Tianjin and was renamed China University of mining and technology. In 1952, the relevant departments of Tsinghua University, former Beiyang University and Tangshan railway University were transferred to China University of mining and technology, which laid a good foundation for the development of the school. In 1953, the school moved to Beijing and was renamed Beijing mining and technology In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, the University restored the name of China University of mining and technology and established the Beijing Graduate Department of China University of mining and technology; in 1988, it was renamed China University of mining and technology. In 1960 and 1978, the University was identified as a national key university twice. In February 2000, the whole school was under the management of the Ministry of education and became a university directly under the Ministry of education.
The development of the school has always been cordially cared by the party and the government. In 1988, Deng Xiaoping personally wrote the name of the school. In 1994, Jiang Zemin received Professor Yu Li of our university, supported his scientific research project of "underground coal gasification" and made important instructions. On January 19, 1996, Jiang Zemin inspected the school and gave important instructions on energy development strategy and energy science and technology education. On May 18, 1999, Jiang Zemin wrote an inscription for the 90th anniversary of the founding of the University: "pioneering and innovation, rigorous scholarship, make China University of mining and technology a first-class university of energy science and technology." On June 16, Li Peng wrote an inscription for the school: "develop energy science and education and cultivate cross century talents." Wu Bangguo, Li Lanqing, Chen Zhili and other party and state leaders also visited the school in person.
At present, the university has graduate schools and 10 colleges, 7 national key disciplines, 8 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 9 first-class disciplines with the overall right to grant doctoral and master's degrees, 8 key discipline construction projects of "211 Project" during the 10th Five Year Plan period, 7 special professors of "Yangtze River scholars Award Program", 9 post doctoral research mobile stations, 50 doctoral programs and 96 master's programs 58 undergraduate majors. There are one national key laboratory, one National Engineering Research Center, one key laboratory of the Ministry of education, one key laboratory of Beijing Municipality, more than 20 basic and professional basic laboratories, as well as the World Laboratory of coal water slurry, the Sino Japanese Center for stratigraphic environmental mechanics and the international exchange center. In addition, the university is also a training unit for master of Business Administration (MBA), In-Service Master of Business Administration (EMBA) and master of engineering.
At present, the university has 8 academicians of Chinese Academy of engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences (including 4 part-time academicians), 110 doctoral supervisors, 137 master supervisors, 103 professors and 105 associate professors. More than half of the teachers have doctor's degrees, and 85% of the teachers have master's degrees or above. Among the teachers, 2 won the China Young Scientist Award and nomination award respectively, 4 won the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 3 were rated as national young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, 4 were selected as the first and second level of the national "hundred million talent project", 2 were rated as national excellent teachers, and 10 were listed in the cross century and new century excellent talent training plan of the Ministry of education.
During the Tenth Five Year Plan period, the school's teaching work has made great progress, the teaching reform has been gradually deepened, and the quality of education has been continuously improved. From 2000 to 2005, five doctoral dissertations were selected into the national 100 excellent doctoral dissertations; in 2000, one person won the first "China excellent postdoctoral Award" and was one of the national 10 winners; in 2005, the post doctoral research mobile station of Surveying and Mapping Science and technology of the University was rated as the national excellent postdoctoral research mobile station, and two people won the "China excellent postdoctoral Award". Since carrying out undergraduate education in 1998, the university has continuously increased investment in undergraduate education, gradually formed a scientific and standardized teaching system, and ensured the quality of teaching. In the 2004 Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, four achievements were awarded, including two first prizes. In 2004, the one-time passing rate of English Majors of Grade 2002 in CET-4 was 90.7% (the national average passing rate was 62.86%). The university has actively organized students to participate in various kinds of science and technology competitions, and has won dozens of awards in recent years. It has achieved good results in the three sessions of Beijing University Students (non mathematics majors) mathematics competitions, among which the total score of the 13th session in 2001 ranked sixth; in the 14th session in 2002, it won one special prize (two special prizes); in the 18th session of Beijing University biology competition, it won the first prize In the group a competition of science and technology competition, he won one special prize in group A; in the 2005 National College English competition in Beijing, he won two first prizes. During the Tenth Five Year Plan period, gratifying achievements have been made in the employment work of the University, achieving a higher employment rate of graduates, with an average annual employment rate of more than 95%. In 2005, the employment rate of undergraduates reached 96.4%, and that of Postgraduates reached 99.3%. After years of efforts, the university has formed a school running pattern that attaches equal importance to graduate education and undergraduate education. According to the "Eleventh Five Year Plan" for the reform and development of the University, the university will actively build an open graduate education system and a research-oriented undergraduate education system in the future. There are more than 8500 students in the school, including more than 3300 graduate students and more than 4600 undergraduate students.
The scientific research work of the university has always maintained a good momentum of development. During the 10th Five Year Plan period, it undertook 50 national key scientific and technological projects, including 10 "863" projects, 11 "973" projects, 7 "10th Five Year Plan" key scientific and technological projects, 4 "National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars", 1 innovative scientific research group project and 1 major project of NSFC. It has won 141 national, provincial and ministerial awards, including 9 National Science and technology progress awards and 18 Ministry of Education Science and technology progress awards, and has published 4887 papers. At present, there are more than 400 research projects in progress, including 24 major projects such as the national "Tenth Five Year Plan" key scientific and technological projects, "863" projects, "973" projects and the innovative scientific research group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 60 projects of the National Natural Science foundation of China, and more than 70 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects such as the key projects of the Ministry of education. A number of national major scientific research projects, such as coal water slurry preparation, underground coal gasification and industrial briquette, have been industrialized and achieved good economic and social benefits.
The University attaches great importance to international academic exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation, and has established academic exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation relations with dozens of universities and scientific research institutions in more than a dozen countries. In August 1999, the school successfully held the '99 international conference on mining science and technology. In April 2001, the 29th International Conference on computer applications in the minerals industries (Apcom) was held in the University. This is the first time that Apcom international conference was held in Asia and developing countries. In October 2001, the school held the 175th Xiangshan scientific conference, which was also the first time to study the scientific problems of deep resource exploitation. At present, the university has established intercollegiate cooperation and exchange relations with Nottingham University, Leeds University, Penn State University and other world-famous universities. The university will select outstanding undergraduates to go to Nottingham University and Leeds University to pursue master's and doctor's degrees. In 2004, the school has selected the first batch of students to study in the University of Nottingham. In 2006, the university will launch a scientific research training exchange program with Penn State University.
