Zhangjiajie vocational and Technical College of aviation industry is a full-time ordinary college established with the approval of Hunan Provincial People's Government in 2001. It is also the only higher vocational college in Hunan Province to cultivate high-quality skilled and applied talents for national defense industry. Its predecessor was the technical school of 013 base of the third Ministry of mechanical industry, which was changed into Dayong aviation industry school in 1983 and Zhangjiajie aviation industry school in 1998. The college is subordinate to the former Ministry of the third machinery industry, the Ministry of aviation industry of China, the Ministry of aerospace industry of China and China National Aviation Industry Corporation. In 1999, it was put under the management of Hunan Provincial Office of science, technology and industry for national defense.

The college is located in Zhangjiajie, a famous tourist city, with good conditions for running a school. Among the full-time teachers, 32% have the title of associate professor or above, 4 teachers enjoy the special government allowance issued by the State Council, and 40% have master's degree or above. In recent years, more than 110 kinds of teaching materials have been published and distributed nationwide, more than 800 academic papers have been published at home and abroad, and many national and provincial (ministerial) scientific research projects have been presided over.

The total value of teaching instruments and equipment is nearly 40 million yuan. The library has a collection of more than 600000 books and 32 modern professional experiment and training rooms. The college is the construction unit of numerical control training base supported by the central finance, and one of the 15 vocational education training bases of national defense science and technology industry. There are national computer level examination center, National College English level 4 and 6 examination center, national vocational skill appraisal institute, Zhangjiajie correspondence Station of Zhengzhou Institute of aeronautical industry management.

The college has seven departments (departments) including mechanical engineering department, tourism and economic management department, electrical engineering department, information engineering department, numerical control engineering department, foundation department and sports department. It has set up mechanical design and manufacturing, mold design and manufacturing, application and maintenance of digital control equipment, numerical control technology, aeroengine assembly and test run, welding technology and automation for military industry and local economic construction There are 31 Higher Vocational Majors, including aircraft manufacturing technology, aviation electromechanical equipment maintenance, accounting, tourism management, international business, aviation services, electrical automation technology, electronic information engineering technology, mechatronics technology, computer application technology, computer network technology, animation design and production. Among them, NC technology, mold design and manufacturing, tourism management, and electrical automation technology are the experimental majors of education and teaching reform in Hunan Province, and NC technology is also the top-quality specialty of Vocational Colleges in Hunan Province.

For a long time, the college has relied on the aviation industry to highlight the characteristics of military industry.
