China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)

China University of Geosciences is a national key university directly under the Ministry of education, a university approved by the state to set up a graduate school, and a university constructed by the national "211 Project" and the Ministry of education's "innovation platform for advantageous disciplines". China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is located on the Bank of Wuhan East Lake and at the foot of the south mountain. With earth science as its main feature, the university has two national first-class key disciplines: geology, geological resources and geological engineering, covering science, engineering, literature, management, economics, law, art, education, philosophy, etc. The school is a national civilized unit and the best civilized unit in Hubei Province. Historical evolution

China University of Geosciences was founded in 1952. Its predecessor is Beijing University of Geosciences, which is a combination of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Tangshan railway University and China University of mining. The University was designated as a national key university in 1960. In 1970, it moved to Jiangling, Hubei Province and renamed Hubei Institute of geology. In 1975, it moved to Wuhan and renamed Wuhan Institute of geology. In 1978, Wuhan Institute of Geosciences established the Beijing Graduate Department of Wuhan Institute of Geosciences at the original site of Beijing; in 1987, the State Education Commission approved the renaming of Wuhan Institute of Geosciences as China University of Geosciences, with the headquarters in Wuhan and Beijing. In February 2000, the school was put under the management of the Ministry of education by the Ministry of land and resources. In October 2006, the Ministry of education and the Ministry of land and resources signed an agreement to jointly build China University of Geosciences.

School running conditions

The school has 3195 staff, including 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 183 doctoral supervisors, 420 professors, 497 associate professors, 5 foreign academicians of the Russian Academy of natural sciences and 5 foreign academicians of the Russian Academy of engineering. Ten of them were selected from the national "Thousand Talents Program" (including 3 youth program), nine were specially invited professors from the "Yangtze River scholars Award Program", four were lecture professors from the "Yangtze River scholars Award Program", ten were awarded by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, two were awarded by the science fund for outstanding young scholars, 31 were awarded by the "new century talents" of the Ministry of education, and 33 were selected by the "Chutian Scholars Program". In recent years, the university has added 2 national innovation research groups, 3 innovation teams of the Ministry of education, 4 national teaching teams, 1 national famous teacher and 8 Hubei famous teachers. In 2008, Professor Cheng Qiuming, after academician Zhao Pengda of our university, became the second Asian to win the international society of mathematical geology's highest award, the klenbein award.

At present, the university has 86 scientific research institutions, laboratories and research institutes (institutes and centers), including 2 state key laboratories, 1 National Engineering Technology Research Center, 1 national local joint engineering laboratory, 14 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, engineering centers and Humanities and social sciences research bases. The school library has rich literature resources, forming a collection system with science and technology literature as the main body and earth science literature as the characteristics. The school has 1.55 million paper books, more than 1 million Chinese and foreign e-books, 2067 Chinese and foreign databases, and nearly 60000 hours of multimedia resources. Since the 1950s, the school has successively established teaching practice bases in Zhoukoudian, Beidaihe, Three Gorges and other places. Among them, Zhoukoudian field practice base is known as "the cradle of geological engineers", and has been built into "National Geological Experiment (practice) teaching demonstration center" and "national basic discipline talent training ability (field practice) base"; relying on the Three Gorges Zigui practice base, the Ministry of education has built the research center of geological disasters in the Three Gorges Reservoir area of the Yangtze River, and its influence radiates across the country.

The University vigorously constructs a discipline system dominated by earth system science, and actively develops applied science, frontier science, and emerging interdisciplinary subjects closely related to social and economic development, such as information, nano, materials, biology, energy, environmental protection, etc. Currently, the university has 8 national key disciplines and 16 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, among which "geological resources and geological engineering" and "Geology" are the two first-class disciplines in China; there are 18 colleges (departments) and 60 undergraduate majors; it has the national geological science talent training base and the geological engineering talent training base of the Ministry of land and resources; It has 12 post doctoral research stations, 13 first-class discipline doctoral programs and 38 first-class discipline master programs, and 10 professional degree awarding rights, including master of engineering, MBA, MPa, MFA and J.M., among which master of Engineering covers 19 engineering fields.

The school has always attached great importance to scientific and technological work. In the past five years, the university has presided over more than 600 national level projects such as "973" projects and special topics, "863" projects, National Natural Science Foundation of China and Social Science Foundation of China, with steady growth of scientific research funds. Academician Yin Hongfu presided over and completed the scientific and technological achievements in determining the "golden nail" (International Standard) of the global Permian Triassic boundary layer type, and won the honors of "top ten progress of basic research in China in 2001", "top ten progress of science and technology in Chinese colleges and universities in 2001" and "top ten science and technology news in China in 2001". As the first author, our teachers and students published 4 papers and 1 Science in the international journal Nature. In the past five years, the university has won a total of 50 science and technology awards at the provincial and ministerial level, including 4 National Science and technology progress awards, 1 National Natural Science Award and 4 National Science and technology progress awards. The Chinese edition of Earth Science sponsored by the university is included in EI, the English edition is included in scie, and the Journal (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) is included in Chinese core journals and CSSCI.
