Guangdong Vocational College of literature and art is a higher vocational college of art with glorious historical tradition and profound cultural accumulation. In the outline of the plan for building Guangdong into a cultural province (2003-2010), Guangdong Vocational College of literature and art is one of the nine major projects for building Guangdong into a cultural province. As the only higher vocational college in the National Federation of literary and art circles, the college is a public comprehensive art higher vocational college sponsored by the Federation of literary and art circles of Guangdong Province, approved by the people's Government of Guangdong Province and registered by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. The predecessor of the college is "South China People's College of literature and art" founded by Marshal Ye Jianying in March 1950. The name of the college is inscribed by Chairman Mao Zedong. In 1985, the college was renamed as "South China Amateur University of literature and art". The Vice Minister of the Propaganda Department of the provincial Party committee and Secretary of the Party group of the Provincial Federation of literary and art circles served as the president, and Liu Tianfu and Ouyang Shan served as Honorary Presidents. In 1995, with the approval of the provincial people's government, the College changed its name to "South China literature and art adult college". Liu sifen, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the provincial Party committee and chairman of the Provincial Federation of literary and art circles, is concurrently the president of the college, and Lin Yong, Guo Shaogang, Tang Xiaoming, Yao Xijuan and other famous writers and artists are academic members of the college. In April 2004, the college was transformed from an adult college into a full-time Art Vocational College and renamed as "Guangdong Vocational College of literature and art".

The college has three campuses: Panyu main campus, Guo Lanying art branch of Guangdong Vocational College of literature and art, and Hailian Road Campus, covering an area of 188.7 mu. Elegant environment, all teaching, living, sports facilities and equipment, strong artistic atmosphere in the campus. The college has 3995 full-time students, 213 full-time teachers and 103 part-time teachers. At present, the college has 11 majors, 27 professional directions, 7 teaching units (Department of art and design, Department of music, Department of film and television drama, Department of fine arts, Department of dance, Ministry of basic education, Department of continuing education and secondary vocational education), and 1 teaching and scientific research institution (Guangdong Institute of literature and Art). At present, the total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 23.098 million yuan, 5223.6 yuan per student; the collection of paper books is 285000, e-books is 450000, and the average number of paper books is 67.

Adhering to the school motto of "ambition, innovation, morality and beauty", the college adheres to the school running philosophy of "promoting the deep integration of government, school, industry and enterprise, innovating the training mode of high skilled literary and art talents, giving play to the leading role of Guangdong culture and Art Vocational Education group, creating a large platform for collaborative development, and leading the comprehensive improvement of social culture and art quality", and adheres to the principle of "cultivating morality, intelligence, physique and beauty" The training goal of "comprehensive and innovative talents with advanced technical skills" is to meet the needs of the culture and art industry. In terms of enrollment and teaching, we should implement the dual track of general higher education and adult higher education, with higher vocational education as the main, integrated education, secondary vocational education and training as one. In order to meet the needs of regional development for cultural and art talents, we should constantly adjust the professional structure, deepen the reform of education and teaching, strengthen the construction of teaching staff, and innovate the talent training mode, so as to steadily improve the quality and level of talent training. Since the reform in 2004, the college has attached great importance to teaching and scientific research, and has established 14 national, provincial and college level excellent courses, 2 provincial and 12 college level excellent courses. At the same time, our institute is committed to the research work of scientific research projects. There are 117 projects in our institute, including 6 national projects; 38 provincial and municipal (Department) level projects represented by Professor Zhong Shanjin's "investigation and countermeasure research on the current situation of performing arts talents cultivation in Guangdong Higher Vocational colleges"; and 73 Institute level projects.
