Historical evolution

Wuhan University of technology was founded in June 1972, formerly known as Hubei Institute of chemical industry and petroleum, under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province. In March 1980, with the approval of the Ministry of education, it was renamed as Wuhan Institute of chemical technology, which was in charge of the former Ministry of chemical industry. In July 1998, with the adjustment of the university management system, the University was transferred to Hubei Province for management. The central and local governments jointly built the University, with Hubei Province as the main management. In the same year, the University passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of education and obtained the right to confer a master's degree. In February 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of education and the people's Government of Hubei Province, it was officially renamed Wuhan University of technology. In 2006, it passed the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of education. In 2012, the University was selected as the basic ability construction project of universities in central and Western China (small 211 Project). In 2013, the University was designated as the doctoral degree awarding unit by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

After more than 40 years of construction, the university has developed from a single engineering college into a teaching and research university with good conditions, strong strength, high level and distinctive characteristics.

Level scale

The university has undergraduate education, junior college education, international education and postgraduate education, with the right to confer bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees. The school enrolls students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. At present, there are 22193 full-time students, including 2642 graduate students, 18825 undergraduate students, 675 junior college students and 51 international students.
