Shaanxi Polytechnic College is located in Xianyang, a famous historical and cultural city. Its predecessor is Xianyang machinery manufacturing school, which was founded in 1950. It is one of the earliest Vocational Colleges in New China. In 1999, with the approval of the Ministry of education, it was upgraded to be the first full-time university in Northwest China to implement higher vocational and technical education, which is under the management of Shaanxi Provincial Department of education. Since its establishment 58 years ago, the college has sent more than 60000 senior and secondary vocational graduates to the society.

The college has a disposable effective land area of 581000 square meters, a building area of 366000 square meters, a variety of modern teaching and infrastructure, and a total asset of 430 million yuan. In recent years, the college has won the honorary titles of "national advanced unit of vocational education", "Shaanxi advanced unit of vocational education", "Shaanxi civilized campus" and "Shaanxi safe campus",, In 2005, it won the "excellent" grade of the Ministry of education's higher vocational talent training level evaluation, and in 2008, it was determined as the "National Model Higher Vocational College Construction Plan" construction college.

The college has nine departments including mechanical engineering, numerical control engineering, electrical engineering, information engineering, material engineering, business administration, humanities, civil engineering and logistics management, as well as the basic department, sports department and continuing education center, industrial technology (training) center and Art Education Center; it has 41 specialties, including one excellent specialty of the Ministry of education and one pilot specialty of higher vocational education reform of the Ministry of education There are 2 provincial education reform pilot majors, 3 provincial education reform pilot majors, 4 provincial key majors, and 2 "two-year" education reform pilot majors of skilled talents training project determined by Ministry of education and provincial education department. At present, the college is the only experimental unit for the reform of "independent specialty pilot colleges" and "complete credit system" in Higher Vocational Colleges in Shaanxi Province.

At present, the college has more than 10000 registered students and 976 employees, including 20 professors, 160 associate professors and other senior professional and technical positions; 35% of the teachers have graduate degrees, and more than 50 teachers, technical and management personnel have gone to the United States, Germany, Japan, Australia and other countries for further study. There are 43 national and provincial model workers and excellent teachers, 1 outstanding contribution expert, and many foreign teachers and visiting professors. The school run factory (Xianyang machine tool factory) has a group of professional and technical personnel who are proficient in the development and manufacturing technology of precision machine tools and CNC equipment, including 15 senior engineers and 49 engineers. They are also an important part of the "double qualification" teaching staff with rich engineering practice experience and technical education ability.

The college is positioned as a "teaching and training type" University, with the training goal of technical applied talents and high skilled practical talents, based on the equipment manufacturing industry, facing the whole industrial field, serving the regional economic, social development and industry talent demand. The basic school running mode of "integration of school and factory, simultaneous development of production and teaching, combination of work and study" has been formed, and a three-level practical teaching and student ability training system of "laboratory on campus practical training base (Industrial Technology Center + professional training room) - school run practical factory" has been constructed, extending to off campus practical training base and industrial base. Aiming at the goal of students' future career, the college takes service as the purpose, employment as the guidance, takes the road of combining production, teaching and research, strives to build the specialty on the career platform, sets the curriculum in the work task, strengthens the cultivation of students' practical ability and vocational skills, and highlights the characteristics of higher vocational education. The college is the host of the Ministry of education's "curriculum reform and textbook construction planning for Vocational Education in the 21st century" (mechanical manufacturing and Automation) professional teaching reform project and "research and practice of teaching quality monitoring and evaluation system of Higher Vocational Education in the new century". It has undertaken 93 scientific research projects and won 12 provincial (ministerial) or higher teaching achievement awards. In recent years, 1000 teaching and research papers have been published, and 50 of them have won provincial and ministerial excellent paper awards; 230 kinds of teaching materials have been edited or reviewed, and 2 academic monographs on Higher Vocational theory have been published; many people have been shortlisted in the Ministry of education and Shaanxi Higher Vocational Education expert database.

The college has excellent conditions and complete infrastructure. It has a four in one industrial technology (training) center with dozens of production-oriented CNC machine tools as the main equipment, 61 professional and technical laboratories with complete categories and excellent equipment, 93 off campus practice and training bases, and 8 sports and art training facilities. It is attached with a production-oriented internship factory with an annual output value of 30 million yuan, which can accept 400 students for post production practice at the same time. It produces five series of more than 20 varieties of tool grinder products, which sell well in more than 20 countries and regions all over the country and the world. The campus network supported by Gigabit Ethernet multi-layer switching technology and domestic high-end network products has been built, and the total number of microcomputers has reached 2700. The library has a total construction area of 18000 square meters, a total collection of 674000 books, an information management system and an electronic reading room equipped with 300 computers. It has a new teaching building, a new student apartment, a student canteen, a student activity center, a multi-functional lecture hall, a standard track and field stadium, a swimming pool, an indoor gymnasium and other relatively complete infrastructure, which provides conditions for the comprehensive development of students' morality, intelligence, sports and beauty. At present, the college is the investment and construction unit of "regional comprehensive numerical control base of vocational education supported and awarded by the central finance", the "national high skilled talents training base" of the Ministry of labor and social security, the "information technology and application distance education engineering training base" of the Ministry of education, the "training base for talents in shortage of numerical control technology" and "training base for high skilled talents of mechanical and electrical projects" of the Ministry of education, and the "mould talents training base" of Shaanxi Province "Talent education and training center", "mechanical vocational and technical training center", Shaanxi Province "secondary vocational school backbone teacher training base" and "Renren skill project implementation unit".
