After more than half a century of unremitting efforts, Liaoning University has become the only comprehensive university in Liaoning Province, which has many disciplines, such as literature, history, philosophy, economics, law, science, engineering, management, art and so on. The school has three campuses, namely Shenyang Chongshan campus, Shenyang Puhe campus and Liaoyang wusheng campus. The teaching area covers an area of 2016 mu, with a building area of 618000 square meters. It is one of the key construction colleges of the national "211 Project".

Liaoning University was founded in November 1948 by the Northeast People's Government in Shenyang. At the beginning of its establishment, it enrolled four-year undergraduates. On September 15, 1958, Northeast University of Finance and economics, Shenyang Normal University and Shenyang Russian college were merged to form Liaoning University. Comrade Zhu De wrote the name of the University himself.

The construction of public service system is relatively perfect, with a total area of 42000 square meters and a collection of 2.75 million volumes of literature, including more than 300 rare and rare books. The library is designated as the United Nations literature collection library by the United Nations publishing department, and is the "national key protection unit of ancient books" approved by the State Council.
