Jilin art college is the only comprehensive higher art institution in Northeast China. She was born in the war, grew up in the national rejuvenation, in the progress of history, deeply rooted in the vast land of Northeast China, imbued with the spirit of white mountains and black waters, cast a broad, open and continuous traditional school spirit. In 1946, when the Music Department of Lu Xun College of literature and art of Northeast University, the predecessor of the college, was founded, the seeds of art began to sprout. In 1958, with the vigorous development of art education in Jilin Province, the music department separated from her mother and gathered a group of famous artists from all over the country to form an independent Jilin art college. Since then, the college has merged Jilin cultural cadre school, Jilin art school, music and dance school attached to Jilin song and dance theater, Jilin art school, Changchun Film Academy attached to Changchun Film Studio and other five art colleges with their own characteristics, initially forming a comprehensive school running pattern with complete art disciplines. In 1978, the college was upgraded to an undergraduate college, gradually establishing the dominant position of art education in Northeast China. Sixty years of hard work, sixty years of inheritance, in which the college has experienced major changes such as the national department, professional adjustment, and so on, the college has always been to cultivate, enlighten the future as its own responsibility, accompanied by the development of China's contemporary art education. Today, all the art institutions with long history, tradition and cultural accumulation are infiltrated in rich humanistic fertile soil, glowing with a unique spiritual outlook, playing the school running function of "cradle of talents, base of cultural inheritance, source of artistic innovation and window of aesthetic guidance", and standing erect as a comprehensive higher art institution with outstanding influence in the field of domestic art education .

The college is located in the prosperous area of the city center, with four campuses of performance, modeling, modern art and urban art, covering a total area of 124000 square meters and a building area of 160000 square meters. It is adjacent to some of the most representative human landscapes and cultural institutions in the city, including Conservatory of music, Academy of fine arts, Academy of design, Academy of drama, film and television, Academy of dance, Academy of modern art and Academy of humanities Seven teaching units, such as the College of Social Sciences, are in the modern city, full of vigor and vitality. At present, it has 15 undergraduate majors and 5 Master's degree programs, covering 5 secondary disciplines such as musicology, fine arts, drama and drama, art design and dance, 3 provincial key disciplines and 1 provincial key construction discipline.
