Leaves opposite, long stalked, ovate or narrowly ovate, 5-11cm long and 3-7cm wide, apex acuminate, base rounded or cordate, entire, scattered with coarse hairs when tender; stipules triangular, caducous. Flowers mostly integrated into cymose panicles; calyx 5-toothed; corolla tube bell shaped, outside gray white, with fine hairs, inside purple, 5-lobed; stamens 5, inserted in corolla tube; ovary 2-locular, 1 ovule per locule. Fruit globose, pale yellow. The flowering period is August and the fruiting period is October.
[growing place]: it grows on the roadside of mountain or in the grass at the edge of rock crevice or ridge. Produced in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang.
[chemical constituents]: it contains asperoside, paederoside, scaderoside, paederosidic acid and deacetylasperuloside. The latter two are the products of extraction. It also contains γ - sitosterol, arbutin and volatile oil.
Indications: dispelling wind and dampness, relieving pain and detoxification, eliminating food and resolving accumulation, promoting blood circulation and detumescence. It is used for rheumatism, traumatic pain, hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal colic, dyspepsia, infantile malnutrition, bronchial fire, leukopenia caused by radiation reaction, dermatitis, eczema and sore swelling.
