[plant morphology] Acanthopanax pulcherrima

Deciduous trees, up to 14 m high. Annual branches with reddish brown fine hairs. The leaves are ovate or ovate elliptic, 3.5-8 cm long, with single serrated margin at the middle and upper parts and sparse entire margin. The young leaves are covered with scattered hairs on both sides, the upper part is rough, the lower part has more hairs on the veins, and the old leaves are glabrous; the petiole is 3-7 mm long. The flowers are small and heterozygous; the male flowers are clustered at the base of the new branch, the female flowers are solitary or 2-3 gathered at the upper part of the new branch; the perianth piece is 4; the stamen is 4, the filament is light red; the pistil is 1, the ovary is ovate, the style is 2-lobed, and the stigma is hairy. Drupe usually 2 axillary, subglobose, orange or blackish, 9-18 mm long, with reticulate nucleus; stipe more than 2 times longer than petiole, hairy. The flowering period is from April to June. The fruit period is from September to October.

Like moist and thick clay soil, often grow in the hillside, gully edge and miscellaneous forest. Distributed in Shaanxi and the south of the Yangtze River.

Cold in nature and sweet in taste
