The algae are tufted, 1-4cm long, purple (black after drying), leaflike, flat and narrow, with irregular forked divergences. They often produce pseudoroots from the divergent points on the ventral surface to adhere to the rocks. The internodes are long and narrow elliptic, and the internodes are constricted. There are long axis cells in the central part of the leaves, which extend to the top and form obvious middle ribs. Some secondary branches often appear at the bifurcation point of the middle rib.
