Body length about 25 cm. The mouth is as long as the head, thick in shape, pink in peak, slightly curved downward, slightly notched at the apex of the upper mouth, and thin and short. The iris is red. The male has golden and glossy feathers and black lines on the head that go through the eye to the pillow. The primary flight feathers and their coverings are black, the outer surface of the coverings is yellow, and the primary flight feathers have narrow yellow or white edges. The tail is short; except for a pair of pure black tail feathers in the center, the other black tail feathers all have yellow tips, and the more lateral the tail feathers are, the larger the macula is. Feet short, lead blue; claws long and curved. The color of female feathers is similar, only the back is slightly green; the black parts of wings and tail are slightly brown.
It mainly lives in plain areas, low mountains and hills, and often inhabits on trees. The song is sweet. Nest at the end of a high branch. It is distributed in the east of China.
