[plant morphology] Cayratia japonica, also known as wild grapevine.
Subshrub lianas. Stems cylindrical, green, grooved, nodes red, yellow brown pubescent; tendrils stout, 2-branched, opposite leaves. The petioles are more than 2 times longer than those of lateral petioles, with 5 membranous, narrowly ovate leaflets, 8-15 cm long, apex acuminate, base obtuse or broadly cuneate, margin with short pointed obtuse teeth, lower surface sparsely pubescent, upper midrib and lateral vein hairy or glabrous. Corymbose cymes axillary, less terminal, pubescent; pedicels sparsely hairy; flowers sparse, bisexual, light green; calyx cup-shaped, upper part separated, pubescent; petals 4, angulate, pubescent or subglabrous; disk cup-shaped, membranous, entire or 4-lobed, ovary trapped in disk; stamens 4, anthers round, filaments long, exceeding disk. Berries globose, yellowish green, black when ripe. Seeds 3-4, base very narrow. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from July to October.
Riding in mountain forest, often climbing on trees. It is distributed in Sichuan, Hubei, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi and other places.
[collection] the roots can be harvested all year round, and the leaves can be harvested and dried in summer.
