Deciduous shrubs or small trees, about 8 m high. Twigs covered with stellate hairs, then smooth. Leaves alternate, elliptic oblong to obovate, 5-10 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide, base cuneate or suborbicular, apex long pointed or short pointed, upper margin denticulate, glabrous on top, sparsely stellate hairs on bottom at early stage, then abscission; petiole short, 1-2 mm long. Raceme, with more than 10 flowers; pedicel 6-8 mm long; calyx campanulate, with irregular fine teeth, covered with stellate hairs, persistent; corolla white, 1.5 cm long, 5-lobed, lobes lanceolate, arranged like tweezers at the time of flower bud; style as long as corolla. Fruit ovate, about 6 mm long. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruiting period is July.
Most of them live in the mixed forest on the sunny slope of the mountain. It is distributed in Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, etc.
